Thanks folks... I was thinking that perhaps there was a separate Clinical Manual that explained the machine and results in a little more details. I know how to get into the Clinical menu... was just looking for a little more detailed information on the machine and its workings is all.

Does this machine normally come from the factory with a Clinical Manual? If so, then I will be raising cane with my supplier for not giving me the copy that came with mine.

It doesn't normally come with a Clinical manual, but there is a short cut into a clinical menu if you want to look at more detailed results. At least on the S* Autoscore there is

The Clinicians Manual is just that, a CLINICIAN manual. It wasn't meant for the end user, only for the pros. When purchased from an online DME supplier the Clinician's Manual is included as well as the Users Manual. Local DME suppliers do NOT provide it w/the equipment. They might keep the first one and toss subsequent ones, who knows? It sure seems most do NOT look at or read them, that they just follow the Quick SetUp Guide and don't bother to learn anything about the device. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the Clinicians Manual for the S8 II AutoSet to share w/you. I had the S8 Vantage, not the S8 II AutoSet.

Well, if the machine comes from the factory with the Clinicians Manual... then I want mine that came with the machine I paid for.

I don't know how successful I will be... but I am still going to ask for it on the basis that I paid for the machine and I want everything that came with it from the Resmed.

Personally, I find it total nonsense about how they try to be so guarded about the machine Clinical menu and the Clinicians manual. These are our machines, we want to learn about them and play an active role.

Okay... I'm finished ranting.

As of 2 weeks ago, the Auto Set II does come with a clinical manual. It's on a CD-ROM that comes with the unit.

As the DME-R/T was stepping through everything with me, he picked up the CD-ROM and said "that's for us" and tossed it into his box. I didn't get a good look at what it was.

When we were finishing up, I asked him "so what's on the CD-ROM?" and he said "some manuals and stuff...do you want it?". So I said yes.

When I popped it in the computer, I saw PDFs of all their manuals and "Getting Started" cards, including foreign language versions.

The only other thing on it is the clinician's manual, which I've looked over. It has instructions on how to get into the menu, descriptions of all menus and how to change settings.

There isn't too much to it. I think a reasonable intelligent person can figure out most of it on their own.

Paul 56, I'll send you a PM.

Guy,
Can I get a copy as well? I also have an Autoset II and would love to have a look at the clinician's manual...

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know if I'll get hundreds of requests, but I can probably handle a few

Send me a PM with your email address, and I'll send it via email (1.28Mb).

I'm only on the computer until about noon today, and I'm away for the weekend, so if I don't see anything before then, requests will be fulfilled starting on Monday.

Only four requests this morning -- that's not so bad

Mike brought up an interesting point -- I seriously doubt there would be any legal issue. The instructions would mean nothing to those who don't have the machine, and if you do have the machine, this manual came in the box.

I think all of you have much more experience than I, so rest assured that I'm not going to go around and play with buttons unless I know what I'm doing. So far, I've just been reading daily data, which I think has helped me understand what has been going on (last night, leak rate was 0.36L/s and AHI was 0.9 -- AI 0.0 HI 0.9 -- so I'm pretty happy with that, even though I didn't sleep well for other reasons). I was titrated at 15, and auto was set to 10/20, and my daily pressures have been running around 11, give or take. To me, that sounds pretty good.

I did notice something, which I talked about in the "EPR Off" thread -- the DME-R/T set EPR to off, but I didn't notice till after he left (and I haven't called him yet, which I plan to do next week). When I first put on the mask at night, I notice considerable resistance on exhale, which I'm fine with. But I also notice that during the middle of the night, when I wake, that resistance is very minimal and breathing feels very natural and free. Very comfortable for me, in other words. Is this machine smart enough to measure and adjust itself in that regard? If so, is EPR even really necessary for me if I'm finding everything fairly comfortable.

Its more likely YOU adjusting to the pressure. We breathe differently when awake than when asleep. Our breathing and heart rate both drop lower as we relax and sleep. And it is supposed to. They just aren't supposed to drop too low!!! My sleep doctor is of the opinion that one might as well have complete comfort on expiration and thus is quite in favor of the addition of expiration pressure relief w/these newer xPAPs and thus his preference for either Resmed or Respironics xPAPs.

They can't have that happening, they wouldn't be able to sell those manuals on ebay if they left them for the customer who paid for them.

There is some good information in that manual... particularly for us newbies!

Thank you for sharing!

Could you please send me a PDF copy of the S8 autoset 2 clinical guide. I would really appreciate it!
