Finaly Got New Machine: Info & Questions.

Post by Analog-X » Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:45 am

Well it was a bit of a long process (mistakes made by doctors office) and finally I have my new Machine and I have updated my Profile to reflect it.

My Pressure settings have changed from 7 to 10, but I believe this is due to the 20 Pounds I've gained in the past 6 months, which I'm working on losing again. This time I made sure to get a copy of my perscription so I can buy my gear at a decent price.

So I asked the provider for the RemStar Plus M-Series C-Flex + Humidifier. The price? $1450.00 Canadian, the Canadian government covers $780 of this Price, which leaves me with $670 out of my own pocket. Yes I could have purchased the entire thing for less than $670 online, but will come to that later.

Having had the Full Mask and the C-Type Nasal Mask, this time I decided to ask for the Pillow type. So I got an ResMed Swift LT Nasal Pillow System with Headgear which they want to charge me for $240 Canadian.

So what about the balance of $670? I'm submitting a claim through my work insurance... a bit of song and dance and hopefully they will re-imburse the full amount.. I only have to provide, the Original Receipt, a copy of the prescription and the form that the provider sends to the government, [sarcasm]I dont have to provide a blood/urine sample or a first born child [/sarcasm].

So far I'm very happy with the new machine and the Nasal Pillow, I almost got the 20 degree when I asked about the C-Flex option and to have it enabled.

So that is the info part and here comes the Questions part.

1. Is there a way to have the LED Buttons Dim after a while? Currently they are on all the time and I find that annoying.

2. Since my unit has a Smart Card, should I bother purchasing software/reader for it?

3. Are there advantages of monitoring my own progress buy purchasing software and reader?

4. I find now I have increased flatulence, could this be the increased pressure? Or the Type of Mask I'm using?

5. Any tips on adjusting and using my Nasal Pillow better? I sleep on my side, but I flip sides a few times during the night and at this
point the mask sometimes gets unseated and leaks so I have to re-adjust. I also find my front teeth a bit sore in the morning.
I have Velcroed the tubing along the side and up above my headboard but lots of room for movement.

Thats it for now.

The software and cable reader would be a waste of money for the Respironics M Series Plus w/C-Flex. It isn't capable of any more than compliance data and you already know how many hours a night you do or don't use it.

Hanging your hose above your head is an excellent way of reducing the hose's influence on pillows seal when you change positions during sleep. BUT it doesn't sound like you are leaving ENOUGH freedom of movement for the hose.

I have NO idea what you mean when referring to the "C-Type Nasal Mask". Unless you just mean a nasal cushion style mask. Increased flatulence most likely is caused by the increase in pressure but usually this will pass w'/in a short time so be patient unless it gets really uncomfortable.

Good luck on the weight loss!

You can read about the Repironics Remstar M Series Plus with C-Flex at cpap.com. It tells you what the smart card on that machine does.

Just click on the picture of your machine in your profile and it will take you right to that machine.
