Managed a full night with the mask, these are my figures

Post by enzoweb » Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:15 am

After having the CPAP kit for a week, I finally managed to go a complete night with the mask. I've downloaded the data, and the figures are a bit worrying - people here are talking about an AHI of 1-2, mine is 28.5.

This is the summary data:

Settings:
Min pressure = 4
Max pressure = 20.0

Figures:
Median Pressure = 10
95th Percentile = 13.4
Maximum = 15.2

Leak / Min
Median = 0
95th Percentile = 1.2
Maximum = 25.2 (opened the mask a couple of times to adjust)

AHI and AI - Events/hr
Apnea index = 5.2
AHI = 28.5
% Time in Apnea = 2.3
Hypopnea index = 23.3

During the night I had 30 Apnea Events.

So is this doing me any good? Will the figures get better? Do I need to make any adjustments to the equipment?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your first full night!!

I think this is your problem;
Settings:
Min pressure = 4
Max pressure = 20.0
I would set the min pressure to 8 and see how that goes. The current min of 4 is way too low for you. It takes time for the machine to raise the pressure from 4 to what is needed to keep the airway open(median pressure 10) and that allows events to happen. For now that is the only change I would make. Your leaks look good. Give it a few nights to a week. As you adjust to all of this you may see some improvement in the numbers, but a starting pressure closer to the needed pressure is always a good idea. What was your titrated pressure?

Keep up the good work!

Brenda

Thanks for the reply, and the encouragement.

Had another full night, woke up a couple of times but am getting more used to it.

I think I'll leave it as it is for a week, to get a 'control' of figures, then slowly increase the pressure a couple of points at a time.

Thanks again.

Sounds like a good plan to me!
