Is there any masks that don't leak???

Post by PMG » Sun Sep 21, 2008 3:18 pm

Hey Everyone, just wanted to see if someone has a suggestion on masks that have worked well for you. I'm definitely ready to try something new. I have used a nasal mask for years with a chin strap but have always felt like I really didn't get a good night's sleep. I finally tried a full mask mask a couple of months ago and I do like this type of mask better because it doesn't make my nose congested like a nasal mask. And I also like that I don't have to wear a chin strap anymore but I started waking up feeling air rushing out the sides of the mask, I did try tightening the straps to no avail. So after 3 months I was able to get a replacement seal which I have been using for this past week and it's still leaking so much that I wake up with palpitations and sometimes they continue for a couple of hours after I wake up! This as happened before with the palpitations especially before I was dianosed with sleep apnea, So I know that I not getting the acurate amount of pressure when sleeping.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions,
Thank you,
Patty

The Mirage Activa by ResMed is known for its sealing abilities. It must be worn so loose as almost to be falling off in order to work properly. The air fills the side bellows and pushes it against your face. It is a rather large mask, but it is a decent one.

All the masks that you will try will possibly leak if bumped out of place while you are sleeping.
A clean face and a clean mask seal will make the leaks much less likely, as will a great pillow supporting your cheek but letting the mask hang off the side.

Leaks are something we have all dealt with at one time or another, but gradually with patience and perserverance you will find a mask that will leak little and give you the great results you are seeking.

Take care and good luck,

Karen
