S8 AutoSet Vantage vs S8 AutoSet II . . .

Post by hobbs » Tue Sep 09, 2008 6:49 pm

Anyone have any experience with both? I have a Vantage and need to get a machine for my wife. I do not use EPR when in cpap mode and never missed it in apap mode. The machine is also very quiet. My wife who has been using my S8 until we get her a new machine also has no problem not having EPR in auto at a starting pressure of 9.
If it is only EPR available in apap mode and quieter, I see no reason to spend more $$$ to get the latest and the greatest. I mean it's not like it is a PC or automobile and I NEED the latest technology!

I am anxiously awaiting responses.....
Finally decided to make a purchase rather than rent from DME, and
still shopping around.

I had the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and like you never saw the need for EPR in auto mode. Whilst I do not have the Resmed S8 II AutoSet I do have the Resmed VPAP Auto which just came out in January of this year (2008) and it has the new EasyBreathe technology as do all the S8 IIs. I REALLY like the EasyBreathe technology and altho I never thought my Elite or Vantage produced any noise, I do find the VPAP even quieter. I could sometimes, especially when first going to bed at night hear the difference between exhalation and inhalation w/the Elite and Vantage for the first few minutes of breathing w/them. I did the first night or two w/the VPAP as we got to know each other. I no longer can hear the difference w/breathing when I first go to bed or at any time during the night w/this VPAP. I'm very pleased w/it.

I almost feel like a traitor buying a lightly used pre-M Series Respironics Bi-PAP Auto as a backup/travel bi-level. But, I got the better price, I have the software and cable reader and its a darn good device as well. I definitely like my VPAP better, but now I don't have to worry about my VPAP being lost or damaged whilst traveling!
