New Sleep Study and funy how priorities change

Post by illinigal » Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:37 pm

Well last night I had a titrated sleep study and unlike some experiences I have read about it was great ! It was a very pleasant professional setting..actual bedroom like home, no hospital bed..I was asked if I had any questions and when I did they actually answered them ! Like they thought I had a brain..wow!...they also presumed I had some sense and asked me what range of pressures I had been at..and they asked which I was most comfortable at, and started me there. I was so excited at being treated human I forgot to ask if they had changed them during the night, but I am to get my new results in 3-5 days. They had a nasal mask ready for me,( which the doctor had recommended in the beginning and my DME chose to ignore) . It was the new Swift LT and while it was comfortable I had massive leaks no matter what size/adjustment we tried..so they tried the original model and it felt wonderful ! I had concerns about a nasal pillow because I know I mouth breath, but they assured me if I was uncomfortable with the pillows they would find a FFM for me. Suddenly it is 4 a.m. and the tech is waking me up to put on a chin strap..almost 5 hours later ! I have not slept for 5 hrs straight since my FFM rebeled in May ! I guess I had minimal leaks until I went into REM and my body and jaw relaxed..and again suddenly it was 6 a.m and I was being woke because they had some great data and were real pleased with my success with the Swift ! It was 6 a.m. and I was awake and alert. HOW COOL IS THAT?

Feeling powerful and in control I decided to go the DME that was recommended by my sleep doc and a couple of other members on this great forum. Now I admit I had 2 wait 2 hrs because I live several miles from the town where I had the study , (and I did not want to make a trip back )but thats ok..a little breakfast..a little stroll thru Wally world..I entertain easily and don't get much time to myself..and I hit the CPAP store. When I walked in I realized my priorities had changed. WOW a total show room devoted to Cpap! Almost every mask and nasal pillow I have ever seen talked about or looked at on CPAP.COM , pur sleep, pad-a-cheeks, hose snuggle thingys, cpap pillows..chin straps..all right there for me to touch !

I grew up in southern Illinois when it was a big deal to go to a real city..Chicago, Evansville maybe St. Louis to shop..after all..every teenage girl knows the jeans are always greener in a big city ! Now I am excited to go back to the DME and see if they have any new masks on display ! And by the way..I got a good feeling here too..very professional and willing to help..they have a loaner program for masks and even a bed to lay down on to try the masks with a machine ! Just thought I would add some good news for the day ..can't wait to go to bed tonight !

I think you need more than breathing help

oooh, that DME does sound heavenly indeed! The titrated sleep study sounds similar to my own experiences (<3 my sleep doctor and the clinic he works for, they're all wonderful). My DME is a far cry better than most I've heard stories about but yours sounds like a dream come true! I want to visit a place like that!
