My wife told me last night that she was about to kick me out to the couch because I was snoring.
She's mentioned it before, and she tells me that I'm not gasping for breath like I did before the CPAP, I'm just plain old snoring.
My pressure's pretty high, I think it's at 17, is it possible that it's still not high enough, causing me to snore?
I can't find any kind of smart card reader slot on my machine, although others have assured me that it is there, so I can't give many more details than that.
I've been using the thing for a while now, 3 months, and I can definitely feel the difference, so I do think it's helping. I'm just wondering why I'm still snoring.
Still snoring with CPAP, but not "apnea-ing"?
Re: Still snoring with CPAP, but not "apnea-ing"?
If you want to have a good therapy get a machine with software and learn to tweak your settings. Good patients here can help you.

Re: Still snoring with CPAP, but not "apnea-ing"?
it is because you are using a Full Face mask, if the therapy CPAP pressure was coming in from the nares it would be pushing the soft palate down against the base of the tongue and eliminate any snore. Use a Full Face mask and breathe through your mouth it separates the soft palate from the base of the tongue so the air pressure can get behind the base of the tongue and splint it out of the way.
Just as with NO therapy, the air movement from the CPAP machine moves across the soft palate and causes it to vibrate.
Reason a nasal interface always offers the best therapy, but that is only if you can control the mouth breathing.
You could try the Pap-Cap by Pur-Sleep, it is in the form of a cap with a chin strap, it will keep your mandible from dropping and possible eliminate the mouth breathing and/or reduce it.
Concentrate on keeping your tongue into the hard palate as you sleep, make sure you keep any nasal congestion clear, use a saline rhino rinse if necessary.
Some believe snoring leads to micro-arousals and can interrupt your sleep. When you snore you are also on the "verge" of having an apnea. Most auto machines aggressively chase a snore for that reason.
When you consider how close the base of the brain is to the location of the vibratory snore that is understandable.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Since you are using the S8 Elite, it does have full data capability.
The slot for the ResScan Data Card is in the back of the machine, in the center about 3/4 of the way up from the base. It is a horizontal slot about 1" wide.
If your unit is indeed the S8 Elite and not the S8 Elite II, you can purchase and use the earlier software ResScan 3.3. This is available for sale at a number of places online including cpap.com along with the card reader. You can also purchase the Data Card.
If your model is the S8 Elite II, then you will need later software (3.4 or 3.5) which is more difficult to obtain.

Began CPAP on Jul 22, 2008. Split Night Study failed to get a good titration pressure. Titrated (2 week home APAP) at 10. Currently using APAP at 13-15. Not using Humidifier. Even with SA under control, still can't sleep all night!
Re: Still snoring with CPAP, but not "apnea-ing"?
In addition to what's already been mentioned......and in particular the part about doing a nasal rinse and/or keeping your nasal passages clear......if you have nasal congestion and you have your humidifier cranked up high, it could be exacerbating your problem and I would suggest turning your humidifier down or off. Warm, humid air could be closing up your nasal passages and contributing to the problem.
