Smiley Xtra 4 and maybe...5? (OT?)

Post by birdshell » Thu Aug 28, 2008 8:59 am

There have been many requests for where to find my smileys. So, here goes:

They are no secret and are available to all. Smiley Xtra 4 can be hard to find in the vast morass of Firefox plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons. Smiley Xtra 4 is considered a Firefox add-on. It can be found in the list of links below.

I did a search, and found other versions. However, I have not tested them. Please let us know if you find that they work...I mean, I don't have Linux, or a Mac, and my version for my PC with Firefox works for me.

Thanks for the links. I got desperate the other day and downloaded Incredimail thinking I was getting emicons but got a take over your mail program. Thought I was never going to get all of it out of my system.

That happened to me with an emoticon software I used a couple of years ago. The Firefox one seems to be doing OK.

I LOVE these! The first time I saw you post with them, Karen, there was a link or something on your post (Firefox version) and I quickly downloaded it.

That's exactly what I was thinking - now it's like a virus. I've already used over a dozen.

I hope this doesn't put the server storage over the edge Image

OK, I guess I am going to have to admit I don't know how to push the ON Button on the computer but I can't get it to download, what the heck am I doing wrong. I used the link and I go to the Softpedia page (Windows Version) and click on the Download button. Takes me to a page that says "Download Location for Smiley Xtra 4.1.1". When I click on that it takes me back to the Softpedia first page that I started with. Anyone download the Windows version? What am I missing?

Are you running Firefox? I don't know if it needs to be the latest 3.0 version of Firefox, but it worked well for me with v3.0.

For these steps to work you need Firefox.
1) be in Firefox browser (which you are if you're in the forum)
2) click on add-"Firefox Add-on: SMiley Xtra 4 link in this thread posted by birdshell
3) let it load the program to your toolbar
4) there should be a smiley icon on your toolbar (mine is in the upper right hand corner
5) click on smiley icon and it should load next to your forum window as a sidebar (if not, cilck on View, Sidebar, Smiley . . .)
6) create a new post
6) find smiley you like and double click it and it will put a link in the post you created.

Hmmm, I guess I'll have to consider firefox because I want toys too Interesting. I just looked up firefox in google and it brought me to a mozilla page. Isn't that who used to make netscape? Is firefox the newest version of netscape? I loved netscape. I used netscape for years, fought IE with a passion until I finally gave up. I've been hearing more and more about firefox so this makes it even more interesting.

Hmmm, guess firefox and netscape are two different animals and I've got the memory of mozilla wrong. I wonder where I remember mozilla from? I just checked firefox vs netscape in google and got enough to convinced me that they're 2 different browsers.

So why do you guys use firefox? Just wondering. I guess I'll read about it on its page but those toys make it awfully tempting ...

If I remember correctly, the folks who brought us Netscape wanted to "get back to their open source roots" after Netscape was sold to AOL in 2003. I like Firefox because it is open source and other people are free to write software like the smiley add-ons.... Image

The only thing I can figure because it is suposed to work with windows is that for windows it is a BitTorrent download. While I have uTorrent I can.t figure how to make it work. There is a link for windows users. I guess I am not supposed to have it.
