silicone seal developing a white discoloration after washing

Post by Bubsycooks1 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:01 pm

Hello all,
I am using a resmed mirage activa mask and I wash it with a little dish soap (palm olive) and water. The delicate silicone seal though is developing some sort of residue from the soap (not from leaving any soap on it). I get the feeling I can remove it with an alcohol wipe, but I'm afraid it will kill the delicate seal by drying it out. Has anyone else had this problem? why does the silicone go white? Is it even a problem?

I've been washing my Ultra Mirage Full Face (UMFF) with Dawn dishwashing liquid for the last three-plus years and it does somewhat the same thing. It's clean......hasn't seemed to hurt the mask (or me) and I know it's clean. I don't worry about it. I've gotten over three years use out of it and it still seals great. After washing and rinsing in hot water, I let mine soak in cold water for awhile and it seems to restore the firmness of the seal.

if for some reason discoloration really bothers you, I found that vinegar and water solution removes residue.

I've been using Liquid Neutrogena facial cleansing formula (fragrance free) for years with great results. It leaves no residue or smell behind, only a squeaky-clean mask and seal.
When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep good?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'

Hi, I use MARSIGLIA Liquid Soap with excellent results! No leaves residue on silicone flap or discoloration! Can you find this soap type in the USA?

MARSIGLIA liquid soap would be difficult to find in the US; it sounds similar to Dr. Bronners soap, except for the scent. Dr. Bronners soap is easily found in the US.
