Severe dry mouth!!!!

Post by Dgrendahl » Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:32 am

I have been on CPAP now since Sep of last. I use a heated hose and humidifier. lately I have noticed that during the night and when I awake, my mouth is so dry that I swear I'm not going to be able to even open it! I have tried turning the humidity way up and that doesn't help either. Anyone else experience this and what have you done to alleviate it?

You're going the wrong way with your humidifier settings......turn it OFF. There's another thread on the first page (only two posts below yours as I write this) about humidity and AHI. You're obviously mouth-leaking/breathing with your nasal mask and the higher humidity exacerbates it by closing up your nasal passages.

You also probably need to tape or use Polident adhesive denture strips to seal your mouth.

Go up to the Search function (above) and put in the word "Polident" and you'll get about 34 pages of results to read through. It's actually the Polident Adhesive Denture Strips you (may) want to get. Other folks use various kinds of tape, too.

Here's a link to a thread discussing taping. It's just a little further down the first page as I write this.

An oral surgeon told me to use "Oasis". It is an OTC item at Walgreens, etc. I spray my mouth heavily, then swallow it. I use about a dozen "squirts" to get a large quantity in my mouth. This is supposed to help with dry mouth and prevent tooth decay for a few hours. It used to be about $6.50 a bottle, but they sell it for half price at times. I bought two cases when it was half price.

I am getting over Bronchitis, so almost anything would trigger my coughing, I used the Oasis, then swallowed it slowly (not a bad taste). This seems to have helped my coughing when I initially start the SV up. I go to sleep and sleep all night if I use Oasis. There are probably other things you could use, but this one happened to be recommended to me.

Good luck with it.
Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.
