New Guy Here

Post by Mr. Denial... » Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:21 am

Hi all, just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the great info. After many years of denying I had a problem, I went and had the test. 96 minutes of diagnostic study found that I had an AHI of 118.8 events per hour of sleep. With the CPAP set to 17 I was down to 5.7. After reading that, I have no idea how I functioned for all these years...

So far so good with the CPAP, still working out the kinks but I'm starting to feel better already.

Take care,

Mark

Welcome to the forum, Mark! Ha! Yer gonna have to change that ID, doesn't sound like you're a MrDenial to me! Its great to learn you are feeling better already! Some of us don't take to mask and CPAP therapy all that easy or well. Anyway, we're glad you finally opted to "see the light" and have that sleep study! Welcome again to the world of CPAPping! There's LOTS to learn here.

Hi Mark, welcome to the Hosehead world! Wow, that's a LOT of events. Do you how much your oxygen desaturation was?

Also, not to be nitpicky, but an "official" diagnosis needs to be at least 120 min of sleep time. Be careful that you are not denied insurance coverage, etc, on your equipment because of that.

Now, use that sucker EVERY night and EVERY time you go to sleep

The report said "Minimal arterial oxygen saturation was 81%", not sure what that means though...

"Minimal arterial oxygen saturation was 81%" means that for some duration of the night the oxygen carried by your blood to your body and organs had insufficient oxygen. That your blood carried only 81% of the amount of oxygen that is ideal to sustain healthy organs and body. Anything below 90% becomes a concern depending on how much time is spent below 90%.

And that's probably why they had enough info after 96 minutes.
