name of antidepressant to help me with OSA?

after numerous surgeries to correct sleep apnea, i still have it. From all this I have become even more depressed, as you can imagine. Just wondering if anyone knows the name of a good antidepressant that would help me at least a little bit. I know sleep deprivation is the cause of my depression but i definetly need something to help me out until the next treatment comes along.... i used to take prozac but that didnt work so well. going to the doc's tomrrow ..any input would be great. thank you.

I found that daily exercise like a 30min walk can help about as well as an antidepresent. The big problem
is geting the energy to do it if you are depressed! I found that doing it first thing in the morning is best.
Especialy if you do it first thing in the morning it's harder to say "I am to tired to exercise after going to the
store, geting a hair cut and having the Dr. apointment I will just skip it today".

The best thing for me was getting OFF of the antidepressant (Lexapro) and getting some Ambien to help me sleep. Hopefully, once I get a sleep routine established, I will have more energy, be able to exercise more and lessen the depression. Make sure you know what the effects of getting off of the depression medication before you get on it. My doctor didn't mention that I would get "brain zaps" if I tried to get off. I now wish that I had never been put on depression medication. I just needed some good sleep.

Which surgeries? How much sleep are you getting? Untreated OSA and poor sleep apnea therapy will cause or contribute to depression.
Which machine, mask, pressure, etc.? If you have an machine that won't give you information about your therapy, I would advise getting one.

I have to say, the best antidepressant I've ever had was.....a proper titration value for my CPAP. I hate the masks (and the way they mark my face and can swell my eyes), hosing up every night, etc. but I'm 95% compliant and with the proper pressure (almost twice what the original titration value was) I've seen some real improvements. So if you're not following up aggressively with your xPAP options, make sure that's part of your plan.

The only other piece of advice I have is to bring a copy of your sleep study/diagnosis to any doctor prescribing antidepressants. He/she should be aware of which pharmaceutical options will have the least disruptive effect on your sleep (almost all of newer drugs can decrease REM stage sleep).

I have had my tonsils/adnoids removed, deviated septum corrected, and bi maxillary advancement (jaw surgery, twice actually cause my friend accidently hit me in the face shortly after the first one and i broke my mandible). nothing has worked, cpap at pressure 17 has worked for little amount of time but then i kept getting sinus problems from high pressures. this has gone on for six years so although i would love to not resort to medications, you can imagine after all this and no luck it gets a little "depressing"

Are you using heated humidification?
If so, have you tried using "pass-over" (cool) humidification? Heated humidity can actually have the effect of closing up one's nasal passages......IF that might be contributing to your sleep problems.

osagirl, after you sort thtough the advice from the others, if you still think you need an antidepressent, you probably need to talk with your doctor. I think each has one they like to prescribe, probably because they know what to look when settling in on a dosage. Each seems to have some nuance that affects other systems. Most are Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that increase the amount of Serotonin in the brain. That's a good thing, but most also reduce libido which for many is a bad thing. So it's a trade off.

My point in telling you this is that if you NEED it please get it. It's not the same as the muscle men loading up with steriods they don't need. On the other hand, it your are really doing OK but just want a little mood enhancer, there are products over the counter that don't require that level of commitment.
