Too much of a good thing?

Post by Volcanomom » Sun Aug 10, 2008 5:53 pm

I know change is good. Especially positive change. But today I'm feeling overwhelmed. I almost feel like I bit more off the health cookie than I can swallow.

After an episode of heat exhaustion on a field trip, and my dorm mate confirming my husbands assessment of apnea, I decided to "get healthy".

So, since the end of June, I have:
Had a sleep study
Been diagnosed with Mixed Sleep Apnea
Had a Nerve study and gotten braces for carpal tunnel
Had a physical with blood work and EKG
Started using the CPAP
Joined Curves (working out 5-6 days a week)
Started a diet program and lost 7 pounds

See--all of this is very positive stuff. But right now, I just want to eat an entire chocolate cake and take a nap![/list]

Congrats on the positive changes. I know it can get overwhelming though. I've done much of the same. However, even after losing 60 lbs I still give myself permission to have a "treat" on occasion. The key is not too often and not too much a one time. Have you thought about setting up a reward system for all your hard work? Doesn't have to be food, but anything that would make you smile. Also, have you tried sparkpeople.com. They have some pretty neat tools to help you track fitness and diet along with some communities for support and encouragement and a fantastic recipe site at http://www.sparkrecipes.com. We all have moments we are overwhelmed, but be proud of yourself for what you have accomplished and keep on keeping on. I wish you the best on your journey to healthy living.

Thanks Sundra. I'll check sparkpeople. I've heard of it but haven't investigated yet. Congrats on the 60 pounds! I haven't really thought about treats yet. It's a good idea - maybe a new paperback every few pounds or something. I was just hungry & grumpy when I posted earlier. Had a pork chop (lean) and some green beans & feel much better now

I love it too Yorkie. Everyone I've met there is so nice, too. I'm a bit worried about keeping it up when school starts. I tend to be the 6 am to 6 pm teacher, but I'm just going to have to change that 3 days a week.

Have you done their 6 week solution weight management? I'm on week 4 of it right now.

I'm not sure how intense their workouts are, but working out too much too fast can lead to injury. Good work so far. I'd suggest finding others who are going through the same and try to make things social. That way you'll have a support structure.
