G'Day Guys havent been in for quite some time

Post by jacko » Sat Aug 09, 2008 3:36 am

There is a Buteyko info night here Monday ,

I know a couple of blokes that swear by it and now dont use CPAP

I am thinking of going along to see what they have to say

The info night is free , but to do the coarse they want $$$$$ , dunno how much yet

They rang me up and reckon there is 95% chance I will be off CPAP after the four night coarse IF ,I do it , at this stage its a BIG if for me

Sounds like a con to me , anyone know anything about it

How are all the old friends going , I know I have lost touch , been off doing stuff , but still use CPAP every night with out fail ,its still is a PITA ,still have bad insomnia ,survive on about 4 hours sleep a night , but thats me I guess

Regards to all , I must catch up , Jacko , down under in OZ still

ROFL! I predict that there is a 100% chance you will have completely wasted your money on the four night course!

Butekyo involves conscious breathing behaviour and it will do NOTHING for unconscious autonomous breathing!

Cheers,

Bill

Oh, Jacko, it is so nice to see you back! Image Maybe you can find a minute once in a while to come back to Live Chat?

I hope that things are going well with you and that you are enjoying a cow-free life!

Sorry, I know nothing of Buteyko, but it sounds as if billbolton's post is spot on.

Just putting in my 2 cents worth here...
After doing quite some research on the net, I came to this comparitive study;

http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/xma ... owler.html
which states;
- There was no difference between the groups in measures of airway function.
- No significant difference in mean ET CO2
- Despite a trend in inhaled steroid use (Figure 3b), there was no significant difference between the groups in absolute daily doses or change in dose at any time.
- No change in lung function was noted.

on the Apnea suppport group site;
http://www.apneasupport.org/about351.html
buteyko breathing for sleep apnea, the thread talks about this techique freely...and it doesn't seem to be much of a cure...

and just as lynn543 stated n that forum;
it all sounds very doiubtful to me, even if they are correct, I dont see how retraining breathing done while awake would alter breathing while asleep.

I'm inclined to agree with Bill.

However, mindful breathing practices like Prana Yoga, or Yoga Nidra are excellent ways to reduce asthma for some people. So, the Buteyko method is really better suited to asthma treatment than to sleep apnea.

I think your money would be better spent on the Resperate device, it has tones to teach you to breathe and effective in a shorter period of time. It will also control your breathing rate, reduce hypertension and teach you to breathe thru your nose.

The method developed by Russian doctor also works but it can take a lot of daily commitment and time over months to see any results.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

jacko,

I confess I have never Scubaed. I chose an image I found on the web and manipulated it so that the blue was deeper and the divers were better silhouettes.

I chose the handle 'DreamDiver' more to reflect my quest for sleep, and the fact that my first mask - the swift II is (very) vaguely reminiscent of you might see in a scuba gear bag.
