Mack's users......some questions

Post by Needsdecaf » Mon Jul 28, 2008 9:33 am

Hey all:

I use Mack's on my Liberty to seal up both the mouthpiece and nasal pillows and last week ran into a bit of an issue. For the first time, I got an irritation from the mouthpiece. First day I noticed it I figured it would go away so I slapped some cortizone on it in the morning and went about my day. And used the same mask that night. Big mistake. Next morning I looked like a clown!!

I figure that dirt and oil got in the Mack's and irritated my face, since I have been running this combination since June without issue.

My question is: does anyone wash their Mack's If so how often and does it affect the seal? Does anyone re-use it? How long do you normally run the same bead before changing it out?

I was probably running a bit longer than I normally do due to time constraints and it's likely that's how I ended up where I am.

So just wanted a bit of advice, thanks!

When I use Macks, I replace every week, more often if it looks "grungy" .... but have no idea if that makes sense or not.

I do wash it, and get one or two washes before it seems to start losing its integrity and the leaks start getting bad. Hopefully you haven't developed an allergy!

No, no allergy. I put it on new last night and I am fine this morning. I will wash it a couple of times and see how it works.

It's not even the expense, but the trouble of rolling it out all the time that makes me want to extend the time between new applications.

I have been finding that I can get about 5-6 nights from an application. I then remove it and squeeze it back into a ball and then re-roll it..I agree that that is a real pain. I hadn;t thought of washing it..but have only been using it about a month, and I have a couple pkgs of it that I alternate and mix up. But I will try washing it..hopefully that would extend the time between re-rolling.

No allergy that I'm aware of.
I do use it to point my Headrest pillows in the right direction when i use that mask (sometimes -- not always with Mack's).
I don't wash the Mack's, but replace it every other usage. After replacing the Mack's, I wash the interface and re-apply if I'm using it.
I've gone back to my ComfortGel mask, but still use the Headrest now and again (Since I got the XL pillows).....

Hope this helps a bit -- good luck!!
cheers

I mentioned above that I usually get 5-6 nites of use before having to re-do the Macks. I forgot to mention that during the day I use a small plastic baggie to cover just the front of the mask to help keep the Macks from drying out. The back is still open to air out the mask so some does get to the Macks, but this seems to delay the drying out. Trice
