I have been using an Activa Mirage mask for about 2 years, they are VERY quiet. I did not know how quiet until I got a Nasal Aire II to try (tried one night so far).
The venting on the Nasal Aire II is noisy enough to keep me awake it is not leaking, as I can cover the exhaust and no sound is then heard. That not what I need from a CPAP mask!
After doing a bunch of reading, the Nasal Aire II is supposedly quieter than others. WOW!
I do not lie still at night, and have to adjust the facemask of my Mirage every so often and really do NOT like wearing the mask. The Nasal Aire II seems like a good alternative (if I can get the sound and head gear to work)
I have looked at putting a lightweight fabric over the vents in the nasal prongs and listening to it today seems like it might help.
Does anybody know if there can be a problem with the CPAP if the vent holes are changed? I am NOT blocking them completely just putting a "muffler" on them.
The headgear is another story, which I am working on. I need much more support than simply a "halo" around my head as the back part just slides up and comes off.

Air sounds from the Nasal Aire II (not leaking)
If you got the NAII from Babs to try out, it has a chinstrap that the NAII hooks two with one wrap velcro and it is quite stable. Look up Babettes NAII Test Drive Manual on this forum and she has many pages of good tips for the NAII. I like the method that puts the hose in the front instead of the back of my head.
The exhaust really caught me by surprise. Babs said to twist the Nasal Prongs so the exhaust would go about 30 -45 degrees in front of you. I thought it was going to twist my nose off, but it didn't and the noise went away completely. Sometimes I put my arms in the way of the exhaust and had to put a sheet over them or it was cool. I think you will get used to the exhaust after you work with it for a while. It is certainly no worse than the Respironics Gel Elbow exhaust and probably quite a bit better. Good Luck.
