ComfortGel Nasal vs Profile Lite Nasal

Post by jensmom » Sat Jul 19, 2008 6:18 am

Hi Everyone:

I have been using a OptiLife for about 9 months. While I like it my husband is complaining about the exhaust sound and also that it slips during night and he hears that as well.

So while the OptiLife is very comfortable, I am looking at a nasal mask instead of the interface to try and "make peace" at my house!! Any thoughts on the ComfortGel or the Profile Lite masks??

Any suggestions on these two?

Thanks

I have been using both the comfort-gel and profile lite mask for months now. I do like them both and get great fits with both, probably a little better with the profile-lite mask. I wear size petite in both. I do get a sore spot on the bridge of my nose with the profile. That is when I switch to the comfort-gel. The CG has different settings to position the angle of the mask on your face and the profile doesn't. This mask is supposed to be an upgrade to the profile. What I like about both masks is the ability to do the boil and fit. When either one is not sealing well after some time, I just do the boil bit and it re-shapes it to the original shape. You can use the boil to fit to your face to start out with if you need to. I don't. These masks are the only ones I have found YET that work the best for me and I have been trying out quite a few in the past few months to find the "perfect" mask. I purchased both of them from Cpap auction for a lot less than retail. There are usually quite a few of them listed there.

Good luck and I hope this helps a little bit.

I too use both the Comfort Gel and Profile Lite. The Comfort Gel is much more comfortable for me but does not yield the AHI numbers that I get from the Profile Lite.

Currently I am playing with pressure and the Profile Lite mask to see if I can get my AHI for the week to under 2. I was titrated at 10cm two years ago, but have gained nearly 40 pounds and must need higher pressure.

For some the CG mask works great and they get good results I just wish I did. In the meantime I will stay with my Profile Lite and work on the numbers. Happy mask hunting!

Jeff
