Offer up your un-wanted masks to newbies

Post by BabetteatWork » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:38 am

Good Morning Campers!

Hey, so a friendly reminder: If you've finally found the mask of your dreams, after trying 27 others, PLEASE consider offering up your "rejects" for free, swap, or sale here on the forum.

Plenty of newbies here looking for relief and can't afford to buy a new mask.

There is the "Mask Roulette" thread that you can use - though for some reason I can't find it right now.... hate that "search" feature...

Or you can just start your own thread, which no one here minds.

If you happen to LOVE YOUR MASK, and think EVERYONE IN THE WORLD should try it, why not consider starting up a Test Drive for it?

I've been running a Test Drive for the Nasal Aire II for months. Seemed like a logical thing to me - I send someone a mask, they pay me for the postage, they try the thing out for a few days, and then they send it back to me.

For the cost of postage, they get to try a mask and decide if it works for them. I've sold off all my unwanted masks by offering them for test drives first, and then final sale if the tester liked them. Cleaned out my stash, helped some people, and probably improved my karma.

I got the idea from all the lovely forum members who took pity on me in my newbie days and sent me FREE MASKS. Yes, I remember you, and still bless you.

So, think about it. Empty your drawers for a good cause!!!!

Cheers,
Babette

Thanks......but I'd rather not make any more enemies than I already have.

Okay... Clearly I'm missing something that you two are seeing and I'm not.

Are you saying that by sending out my unwanted to masks to people, I have been making a mistake?

Or are you saying that newbies who have bought unwanted masks, me included, have made mistakes?

And what IS that "mistake"?

Snoredog, I bought a mask from you. Didn't work for me in the long run, but I turned it over to a newbie who likes it better. How is any of this a mistake? You got paid, two other people got to try a mask they couldn't afford to buy new. What's the downside?

I'm puzzled. You'll have to clue me in here.

No......I'm saying that my couple of "rejects" probably wouldn't work for others, either......and then they'd be mad at me for sending them.

If they want to try YOUR masks......then that's YOUR "deal".

Den, if someone posts that THEY WANT a Blah-blah mask, and you have one, and hate it, what's the harm in sending it to them? They might love it!

That's how I ended up with the NAII. Two forum friends hated it, gave it to me, and I ended up loving it.

See?

Babette,

A small pointer, in case you do not know this. If you set in your browser to save the password on logon (or auto logon is checked), all your posts will show your identity, instead of coming in under Guest. Also that makes it easier for others to PM you with a click (perhaps you want to discourage that ? --- just kidding.)

No, it's that I am BLOCKED by my work server from logging in. I don't know how I can still get on here as a Guest. I can't get onto any of my other forums.

It's a weird loophole. I can't log in, but I can still read and post.

And yes, I'm at home right now, attempting to save data from last night.

LOL,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

they probably have a proxy server at your work site, it routes all internet traffic through it so they can spy on you

and I was only kidding on the message above, but that suggestion only comes after knowing you have tried every tom, dick and hairy mask out there.

The point is, the majority of the interfaces out there are garbage, many are just gimmick masks that look promising but never perform for what ever reason.

With newbies that is not a good idea sending a bunch of reject interfaces around for them to try as it can backfire and leave them thinking their are no interfaces that will work.

there are reasons some interfaces continually hang around year after year it is because they may not be perfect but they work.

If you have been on this therapy a while and have tried those interfaces you learn there are certain aspects about interfaces that make them doomed from their release because of noise, because of poor air delivery, because they just don't work that well, they become available for your swap program because they didn't work for the others either. So you end up swapping around a bunch of rejected interfaces.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Well said. And I agree.

Babette, I don't think it's a bad idea at all since we've all acknowledged that one mask that someone hates can be a mask that someone else loves.

I currently have my Hybrid out on trial and will continue that unless he decides he'd like to buy it at a discounted rate. I figure it saves someone else from spending $127 only to find out they can't effectively use it...or it lets them know it's a mask they love and want to invest their hard-earned dollars on.

So don't be discouraged by some of the responses. Your trial idea is great, and I am very much looking forward to my turn on the NA II tryout.

Well, I also think it's a good idea based on nothing more than the following line of reason:

A) Every well-respected mask has been an absolute dud for very many of us, and
B) Every so-called dud mask has been an absolute winner for more than a few of us as well

Either one of those statements makes for good rationale. The fact that both statements are true makes for better rationale. Right on Babbette. .

You go girl! I remember my NAII trial with you...I bombed however I would have at the point I tried it from you have spent the money just to cross it off my list so it saved me a bundle. I actually ended up after over 20 masks or more buying the Soyala Nasal (no one had it to trade). As long as I don't aphixiate from too much Co2 it will be a keeper!! Keep up the good work on here...you are another CPAP Good Will Embassador!!
