S8 Elite II + ResScan 3.3 + card reader problems

Post by scoopman » Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:03 am

I have a new ResMed S8 Elite II and I want to be able to download data. Unfortunately, so far, I haven't been able to do so and I am not sure if it is a problem with something I am doing or if something is wrong/amiss.

I have:

ResMed S8 Elite II
ResScan 3.3 running on XP
ResScan Card Reader ACR38U
memory card (of course)

The ResScan software is installed properly and so appear to be the USB drivers for the reader.

I put the memory card into the slot in my machine, and it will say "please wait" and then "remove card" when it's done.

I put the card into the reader on the PC and then I can go to the "Settings" menu and one of the options is "Blank Card" for the USB device. I can select settings for this card, but when I hit "Apply" I get a "failure" to save to the card.

In the "Download Data" dialog, it does not recognize that the card has any saved data on it.

I have convinced my DME to swap cards thinking I might have had a bad card but this is not the issue -- it does the same thing.

I have seen some discussion here about needing ResScan 3.5 for S8 compatibility but unclear if this is the case.

Anyone have any suggestions on what could be going on here?

I think, of course, one I need to try is to see if it is perhaps a busted machine that isn't saving data properly onto the card. Think seeing if my doc or DME can download is my next stop.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't know what is causing your problem. Could it be you are connecting up your card reader to a USB hub rather than a direct connect to PC USB? ... I know that is an issue for the Encore Pro software.

Good luck!

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Nope card reader is connected directly to one of the USB ports on the PC. I've tried the other ports too and still no workie. The ResScan software does recognize that I have a card in a reader and it recognizes the reader (it just counts the card as blank and won't write settings to the card either) so I am not sure this is a USB port issue.

The S8 IIs need the 3.4 version of ResScan.

I have the new Resmed VPAP Auto which is an S8 II and I have ResScan 3.3 on my laptop and it won't recognize data from my VPAP Auto. I can use the same data card, put it in my S8 Elite and it works just fine in ResScan 3.3 or ResScan 3.4. I can put the same card back in my VPAP Auto and use it in ResScan 3.4 just fine again. It isn't your data card or your S8 II, it is your version of ResScan.

Do you have a wireless card on your computer? You may need to disable it.

3.3 will let you change the settings on the S8II but I have heard one report that the data can't be downloaded with 3.3

The description of the problem seems to be that the Resscan isn't working properly.

Interesting feedback. I went to my sleep doc's office yesterday and they could not download either (same issue as I had).

I am going to the DME today and will see if they have better luck -- and if so, if they're using newer version of the software.

So now that I got ripped off by CPAP.com by selling me the old version that didn't work with my machine, where can I get the latest version?

Thanks for the responses!

Well now, Scoop. I wouldn't say cpap.com necessarily ripped you off. Have you contacted them to see if they can or will exchange your 3.3 for 3.4 (if you don't have Vista on your 'puter) or 3.5 (if you do have Vista on your 'puter).

And your local DME and/or sleep lab can easily get their ResScan software updated by their Resmed Rep - if they even have the ResScan software. My sleep lab was still using AutoScan to download their Resmed users' data. Until I came along insisting on the new Resmed VPAP Auto that is an S8 II.

An update: it was the software.

CPAP.com did the right thing and gave me a link to a place where I could download the latest 3.5 version.

This worked great right away. And I can also confirm that 3.5 runs on Vista.

ResScan 3.3 link to ResScan 3.5

Post by SleepEh » Thu Jul 03, 2008 2:41 pm

I also have ResScan 3.3 which won't run on my Vista machine. ResMed won't give me the link since I am a patient.

Please could I get that link from you?

Thank you.

I called ResMed and they told me they will only allow ResScan 3.4 or 3.5 to be sold to Trained Clinical specialist not us. I told them I never will buy another one of their machines and never would have got it in the first place had I known that as I hung up.

They want to the DME's to sell the service so they can make money.

I agree -- this really is a messed-up industry.... If most DME providers and sleep doctors not pushing surgery actually provided adequate care and follow-up to patients, ResMed's assumptions and model would be fine.

But they don't.

ResScan v3.3 verses v3.5

Post by Dandy » Mon Jul 07, 2008 10:42 am

I have a similar issue with version 3.3 not being compatible with my S8 AutoSet II. I called ResMed and was told that v3.3 will not work and that I needed v3.5.

I had purchased v3.3 from CPAP.com. I called them and was told that they did not have version 3.5 and that ResMed is not allowing it to be sold to end users. They DID NOT offer a link to where I could download v3.5 and would also not give me a refund for the v3.3 that I had purchased since it had been opened (which is pretty much a standard policy where ever you shop).

So keep an eye on ebay during this week - you'll see a copy of v3.3 being auctioned at a discounted price. ''

CPAP.com Customer Service Shines Through

Post by Dandy » Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:34 pm

UPDATE TO MY JULY 7 POST

Holy cow! Out of the blue, CPAP.com calls and tells me they will accept a return of the version 3.3 ResScan software.

Their original decision not to allow me to return it didn't sit right with me because nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE, on their website or the ResMed website did it talk about ResScan version compatibility with different machines. How is the consumer supposed to know which versions will work with which machines? As a matter of fact the ResMed web site states the following about ResScan: "Compatible with all ResMed treatment devices, ResScan is much more than a software program." Very misleading. (Note: the product review for ResScan on CPAP.com now has a post about version compatibility)

Anyway, CPAP.com had enough of a conscience to rethink their decision and do the right thing. There are companies that throw around the "customer service" mantra as nothing more than a slogan and there are other companies that make it part of their culture. CPAP.com has demonstrated to me that they serious about treating their customers right.

Thanks CPAP.com.

Thanks cpap.com can let me return this software .
