mask cushion will not stick?

Post by MrRandom » Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:24 am

Do these just plain wear out eventually? I've had it a couple months and it just will not stick to my face anymore. I do wash it everyday and wash my face too. I use castile soap on it and my face. Do I just need to get it replaced now?

The cushions will wear out. But before you give up on it, try giving it a soak in 1 part vinegar:2 parts water. Soak for about 10 minutes then rinse very very well. This seems to remove any oil or soap reaidue left on the mask.

Well, maybe "eventually"........but they should last a LONG time if properly taken care of. I have the UMFF and Quattro and actually wash them very infrequently.......just take the palm of my hand and wipe it across the seals at night before putting it on. Every few months I'll break down and wash it in Dawn liquid dishwashing liquid......first wash with hot water, then rinse with hot water and then soak in cold water for awhile. And, I never disassemble them. I've been using the same UMFF for the better part of three years and it's still going strong. If you're using a lot of humidity, that would possibly be an explanation......I don't use heated humidity. You may also need to tweak the tension on the headgear. I wear mine with the top straps very loose, the forehead support in the full, upright position and whatever needed tension on the bottom straps. If you haven't done the "Teflon tape fix" to both ends of the elbow in the front of the mask, I'd highly recommend you do so.
