Since I am having leakage problems with my nasal mask I am trying out a FF mask. I am using the ResMed Mirage Quattro and it is find at low pressure of 14-15 but when I am at my Rx of 20I and 14E I am having lots of loud squeaks and leaks. I seem to really have to cinch it down super tight to get rid of the squeaks and leaks. I was wondering if anyone else at the higher pressures has a good solution to this problem. I wish I did not leak out my mouth so I could use my nasal mask but don't really want to tape, strap, or glue my mouth shut but I bet my wife would think that would be a good idea.
Best Mask for High Flow RX
CPAP masks at high pressures
Gosh, I wish I had an answer for you! I now have an auto titrating CPAP (LOVE IT!), but I consistantly require pressures in the 16-19 range. I have tried a variety of masks and guess what.... they ALL leak. I have tried Respironics ComfortGel nasal, ResMed Mirage Quattro full face, Respironics ComfortFull full face and Fisher and Paykel Flexifit full face. I was told that nasal pillows would not be appropriate for me due to the high pressures. They said that it would cause sinus problems...no thank you!
Right now I am thinking that I like ComfortFull the best. Yes, it leaked, but it was somewhat bearable. My respiratory therapist (who is also a CPAP user) said that at the high pressures leaks are hard, if not impossible, to avoid.
Another thing... make sure you are washing your mask EVERY DAY! I was trying to get by just washing it every other day and I noticed that my mask leaked considerably more the day inbetween washings due to the "stuff" on it (skin oil, lint, dust, etc.) I find that the best thing to use to clean it is plain soap with no moisturizers (e.g. Dial Basic) or dish soap.
Good luck! Know that you are not alone in your search of the "Holy Grail" of CPAP masks!
