Hello & Welcome, sleepycomic! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and SO many helpful people here!

Yep, it usually takes a bit more time than 4 days. For some weeks, for others months. Your AHI is still a bit high, I believe--5 or less is the tagret. Good luck!

Hard to say whether or not you need more pressure. I used my first cpap for almost a year with no results, not feeling any better or more rested, AHI around 11, before I got my autotitrating machine that determined my pressure need is MUCH higher than my sleep study indicated. My study set my pressure at 6, my auto found around 12 or 13 to be the best for me. Now, my AHI averages less than 1.0, and I feel MUCH better. I learned from the "old timers" here to find my pressure rather than trusting the sleep study titration numbers.

I started with my CPAP two ago this Weds. so I'm very new to this as well. My AHI started out at 4.8 and this morning I noticed my 7 day average has dropped to 2.2

I'm still a bit sleepy but it's encouraging to see things improving. I say give it some time and good luck!

Welcome to CPAP, and this forum. It looks like you have a data capable machine, which is great. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to know anything at all about your treatment based on your data from a one hour nap. Its best to check after you get up in the morning, and either download your data to your computer (software and reader required) or record it for later reference, if you are inclined. Also you should fill in your profile.

Rip is right, less than 5.0 AHI is the goal. Feeling better is another goal, and it sounds like you are beginning to accomplish that. Keep with it. Its great that you are napping with the CPAP, that is another goal, sleeping all the time with your CPAP. So its early, but you are on the right path with using your cpap, tracking your data, and feeling better. If you have problems with your mask, leaks or other dificulties, check the yellow light bulb and red dot at the top of the page for information, or bring your questions here. Best of luck to you.

P.S., if you are using a ramp or exhalation relief feature these will cause your average nightly pressure to be lower than your set pressure

Welcome to the board! You have come to the right place for any help needed.

I would not start messing with your machine after only 4 days of use. It is too early for that. The first thing is to get your mask or get a mask that fits, doesn't leak and is somewhat comfortable.

Although you may indeed need a higher pressure, I did, I was titrated at 10 and using my auto, I found my best pressure to be around 13.5, but did not start to change pressures until about a month into therapy. There are so many varibles involved with this treatment. Most of us have learned to make only 1 change for a week to "see" if that helps.

It is great that you are starting to feel better though. It can take awhile to actually feel almost normal. The body healing has to take place and that can take a longer time for some. I actually woke up one morning about 6 weeks into therapy and said to myself, hey I am feeling much beter.

So hang in there and it will happen.

Who you callin' "CPAP-ian"? I prefer the more politically correct term: Hosehead.

Being a New Hosehead, does that make you a "Noser"?

Hang in there. It takes some time to adjust to therapy. You're doing good. Keep up with us here and let us know how we can help.

Cheers and Welcome!

i like that Noser!! Im a stand up comic so i love witty stuff and know how healing it is to laugh at ourselves!! I will continue to use the machine. I actually have no issues with comfort. and i am feeling better a litlle at a time. im sure it will get better. I have 000 leaks and the #s are slooowly going down. I guess at the end of a month Ill check the averages and then talk to doc about pressure adjustments. Thank You

Have we seen you on Comedy Central? I miss that little bald guy who used to go travel all over the place... dang it... brain cells died... He'd stay up all night with whatever weirdo's he found in that particular burg.... oy, getting old sucks...

Anyway, there's lots of funny folks here. You've come to the right place for THAT.

I forget who it is, but someone will chime in, who wrote the book on CPAP humour. Not Rooster.... Dang it, Help a sleepy gal, willya?

I'm known for my C&C posts - as in, Remember to Swallow the COFFEE and push the sleeping CAT off your lap before reading me. My posts have been known to cause monitor and genitalia damage...

Not this morning, however. I need more coffee myself.

Cheers,
Babs

Seems like you have some type of exhalation relief on ... fill out your profile with equipment/settings you use so members can more easily help you out. What pressure were you titrated at?

When using exhalation relief, the reported pressure will always be less than the set pressure on your machine ... because exhalation relief lowers pressure by one or two cm (depending on flex/epr setting) each time you exhale.

As others have noted, you can't really go by data on naps ... or even a single night. You need to look at averages of a week or two of data.

Only other suggestion besides filling out your profile is that you visit here often and get up to speed on taking control of your own treatment cuz if you leave it the sleep health professionals, you better be feeling lucky.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
