What glue sticks to silicone?

Post by OldLincoln » Thu Jun 12, 2008 9:01 pm

Since I've read such innovative modifications to masks, I thought I'd ask.

I'm trying a new bluetooth headset (Plantronics 925) which is good so far, but the ear thing is held in the ear by a little silicone flap that goes under a ridge in the normal ear.

It just barely goes under my ear ridge and needs to be about 1/8" longer (I've already decided not to use pantyhose to hold it so don't waste your time<G>). My plan is to cut a piece of flap off another ear thing and glue it on.

It won't really be visible but it needs to stick. This little puppy is pricey and so light I'm afraid I wouldn't know it fell out until I needed it. So, what sticks very well to silicone?

This thread is not really off topic because you never know when your mask cushion will tear and you have to repair it.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.

I think that the only thing that will adhere to silicone is silicone itself. Available in small quantity tubes at most any hardware store. I would use the kind labeled RTV silicone, and make absolutely sure that the surfaces have no oil film on them, and allow 24 hours to cure. Good Luck

Silicone adhesives sometimes work for gluing silicone, but frequently they don't.

I found a product that is designed to glue silicone to silicone, it is called Sil-Poxy and comes in reasonably sized packages. Even though it comes in reasonably sized packages, it may still be unobtainium. The web site is here: http://www.smooth-on.com/silpoxy%20adhesive.htm

List of hobby shops that may sell it: http://www.smooth-on.com/artdist.htm

I found it at http://www.smoothonsecure.com/ but it is expensive.

I used to have a 55 gallon aquarium tank, I wonder if the blue stuff in a tube that was used to seal the crevices or cracks on the tank would work? There was no odor that I recall, but it sure would stick!!!!!
