Nasal Irritation with nasal pillow mask

Post by terrie49 » Wed Jun 04, 2008 11:32 am

It doesnt matter what mask I use, I have some sensitivity to all plastics. I prefer the nasal piece as opposed to the facal mask because at least the irritation is inside the nostril as opposed to a triangle around my nose. Any help or sugestion would be greatly appriciated.

I use Ayers Aloe gel (can find it in any drug store) with my Opus 360 - and it sems to work just fine - in fact, I can't imagine using nasal pillows without it. Others have used KY or other water based lube with some success.

if you use the site search feature for Ayers, you will probably find freindly debates on the "best" thing to use. This is one of theose subjects that a lot of peopoe have varying opinions on.

The older I get, the better I was

Nose sensitivity

Post by houltkin » Thu Jun 05, 2008 3:21 pm

I have been running a thread on this nose itch I've been getting. I'm good until about 4 hours into the night. That's when the itch starts. After 6 hours it's totally unbearable. I've used all the creams and gels and procedures given by our support group members here on this website to no avail.

I have an appointment to pick up a new mask, a non-silicone, non-latex Profile Lite which is the precursor to the comfort gel with the silicone layer. I don't know if i am allergic to silicone, but it's worth trying something else. I know that most products are made with silicone, including he opus 360 which I am about to ditch because of the nares irritation.

Another possibility I read about is that my postnasal drip allergy may be aggravated by the cpap use, causing some nose activity at night. Nothing severe, just may be causing the irritation. Moist humidification is recommended, which I do use, but I am thinking about taking a 12-hour antihistamine (drowsy type) before bed tonight.

Of course I need to check with my regular doctor because I don't know how taking an antihistamine every night for the rest of my life would affect me.

Good luck on yours.
