Humidifier functioning correctly?

Post by silver123 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 5:17 pm

I've got theM series heating humidifier and have been on CPAP for just over two weeks. How much water should this thing be evaporating into the delivered air? I am asking for a few reasons:
1) terrible cold therefore I hiked it up to the highest , a setting of 5, and it helped but it's only evaporating half a correctly filled tank.
2) before on a setting of 3, it evaporated more water for about the same 8 hour period
3) I keep reading about rainout and have yet to feel anything resembling this. I check the tube in the morning and there is no collected water. If anything the inside of the tube is just slightly damp and that's it. It's been a cool sping up here but I have no heat on. It's certainly not leaking. I've checked the connections. It's firmly seated in the apparatus.

Could I have a faulty humidifier? Any suggestions? Just checking before I haul this thing back to the DME supplier.

Any help appreciated....

The amount of water my machine evaporates changes over the seasons. During the dry winter I will completely empty an overfilled tank. Now, less than half a tank per night.

I reduced my setting from a 5 to 4 because of rainout in the mask. I still get the rain out occasionally but just a few drops.

If you want to test it, turn it off one night but let the air blow over the water.

I keep my humidity set on 2 or 3 and I find only about 1/4th of the water is gone in the AM.
