My wife is now using a sleep mask and is having fit problems

Post by TheeMrFrog » Sun Jun 01, 2008 8:10 pm

My wife was tested last month and my doctor says she has a dangerous sleeping problem and now she is try to wear a mask. She has tried 6 full face so far and none seem to fit around her mouth. They leak air. Two different people swaar by ResMed full face Quattro. It is supposed to be the newest one ResMed has. The two people tell me it is very adjustable. Does anyone use this mask and if so is it ok? Or if anyone has another recommendation I would love to hear it. Again, thanks for helping me find the right mask last year. Ron

Give us a list of the masks she has tried and it will make it easier for us to help find one that works. List each mask and what the problem was with it.

I have used the Quattro mask since it came out about a year ago. I am now in the process of looking for something else as the leaks are driving me crazy. When I got the new Quattro (I have had three in the past year) it works pretty well for a couple of weeks. After that it seems I have to tighten the straps more and more to keep the leaks down. I also usually have to sleep on my side or stomach where I can press the mask into my pillow so as to minimize leaks as well.

It seems to be very difficult to get a full face mask to seal properly. Frankly, I seems to have had the best luck with the Resmed Ultra Mirage FF mask. It is the mask that came out prior to the Quattro.

Apparently, I am a gluten for punishment, however, as I have decided I want to try the Resmed hybrid to see if I like it before I go back to using the Ultra Mirage. I should be receiving the Hybrid today. I will post and let everyone know what I think.

By the way, I found that at times it is not my mask that is a problem, it is my pillow. I am a side sleeper and I need a pillow that I can hang my face off of so the mask will not shift when I move around.

P.S. I just returned a Respironics Comfort Gel FF Mask because I found it to be terribly uncomfortable (oh...the irony) and it leaked a lot.

Does she absolutely have to have a full face mask?

Why not try an UltraMirage II - it's very popular (and I swear by it!) and doesn't use prongs/pillows, etc., but just an 'extended' nasal mask (that also covers your mouth).
