SOFTWARE

As I check out these posts I see that a lot of you CPAPers have some kind of software of some kind. I don't have any software, I feel so left out, do I want software? Do I need software? Will having software be like having a second job? I don't want a second job. Thanks Don

I have software because my MD has no clue about OSA or cpap. I wanted and needed to be in control of my treatment.
It takes only a few minutes a day to download and read the charts. I started out checing everything daily. Then I went to weekly and now I usually check the data 1x month. If I have a problem, or change masks, I check more frequently for a while.
I was titrated at 7 and quickly found that 7 was not good for me. With the help of forum members I retitrated my self. I now use a pressure of 10.5 and have AHI under 0.5 and several 0.0 each week. I have also been able to get my leak line nice and straight and within the limits for whatever mask I use.

Software

If you're doing well with your therapy, you may be relieved to know that there's no chance your machine, the PB420G will supply you with a new job, or any data.

If you're not doing well with your therapy, you may be relieved to know that a PB420S with Silverlining3 will supply you basic data about your therapy.

And a PB420E will supply great data. If you're a real data geek you may find it slightly addictive. I mean, you can export ton's of data to Excel - and who knows where that may lead you!

Both the 420E and the 420S will work with the humidifier you have....

Don,

In addition to what the others have said, should you decide to get a new Puritan-Bennett machine with data capability, such as the 420S or 420E, the corresponding SilverLining 3 software takes mere minutes to install. It just works.

On the other hand, should you decide to invest in a Respironics machine and Encore software, then the best time for performing software installation would be at the beginning of a long week-end, at-home vacation, sabbatical, or even leave-of-absence. Many, perhaps most, people spend hours or days getting Encore installed and operational, sometimes even weeks.

Regards,
Bill
