Jumpstarter to power CPAP?

Post by tashabear » Wed May 21, 2008 6:15 pm

I just purchased a Black & Decker VEC026BD Electromate 400 Jump-Starter in hopes of using it to power my Resmed S8 Escape CPAP for three nights this coming weekend on a camping trip. (I'm not even contemplating trying to run the humidifier.)

Does anyone have this unit (or a similar B&D unit), and if so, how did it work out for you?

I don't have that exact model but have seen it in the stores and considered it for exactly what you are doing. It is a good choice & should work fine but I would make a couple suggestions here -

1. Read the manual and become intimately familiar with its operation.

2. Use it at home - BEFORE you really need it.

3. Learn how to charge it from the cars' cigarette lighter after ea. use. Or see if there's an outlet in the bathroom.

I am sure it will do well. Be sure to keep us posted.

I sleep sooo much better when camping.

Sleep Well & Enjoy,

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Bathroom? What is this "bathroom" that you speak of? No bathrooms where I'm going, my friend, just portapotties. If we want to bathe, we have to haul the water and heat it on the stove.

No time to test it overnight this go-round; it'll charge tonight, and I can't use it tomorrow night if I'm going to be ready to roll out of here Friday morning at 10, the way my husband wants to.

I've only been on CPAP a week, and obviously I'd prefer to be able to use it, but I'll be all right if I can't. I'm really more interested in whether or not I'm going to destroy my very expensive machine if I use the jumpstarter for power.

Ah, the "good life". I prefer "behind the bushes" and a morning dip in a lake @ 10,000ft+. Got to find a way to cram the apap into the backpack!

Tasha,

Have a good weekend.

And I second Hobbs request for a report when you get back. While I currently have a solution, I'm always looking for other answers to the problem.

Ahh, forgive me, I overlooked that Q? the 1st go around.

While I honestly cannot predict what it is YOU will do.

I can tell you I have used a jump starter on mine with absolutely no adverse affects.

Relax and Enjoy your trip. Just be sure to use your cpap.

Not quite that rough. I do medieval reenactment and will be camping in a yurt, but I have a queen-sized bed and a clothing rack. I just don't have a bathroom. I could make a bathtub out of a Rubbermaid tub if I had to, though!

No worries; it was implied, if anything.

Just knowing that someone else used a jumpstarter without incident makes me feel better -- thanks a bunch! I'll definitely post a report when I get back.
