Explaining the "numbers"?

Post by webgrafix » Wed May 21, 2008 3:58 pm

Hey all!

From a tip from another user yesterday, I was able to figure out how to get the "numbers" from my ResMed S8... after a weeks usage.

I was hoping someone can explain exactly what I am seeing...

Last Night:
Pressure: 11.6 <-- I understand this one
Leak: .18 L/s <-- Don't fully understand this one
AHI: 9.0 <--- Is this "hourly"?
AI: 1.9 <--- Don't understand at all!
HI: 7.1 <--- Don't understand at all!

Last Week:
Pressure: 10.6 <-- I understand this one
Leak: .20 L/s <-- Don't fully understand this one
AHI: 12.8 <--- Is this "hourly"?
AI: 1.8 <--- Don't understand at all!
HI: 10.7 <--- Don't understand at all!

My "mask" is entered into my machine as "standard", because it's not a ResMed mask.

Thanks for all of your help and support! This is an awesome group!

Steve

Leak: .18 L/s = leaks per second(usually mask leaks) andything over the allowed mask exhaust rate. Under .40 is acceptable.

AHI = Apnea Hypopnia index. The # of events(apnea + hypopnia) divided by the number of hours you used the xpap. So yes it is hourly. The goal is to get less than 5.

AI = apnea index. The # of apneas divided by the number of hrs on xpap. This is also hourly.

HI = Hypopnia index. The # of hypopnia divided by the number of hours on xpap.

BTW, a year into this, and with considerable help from Forum Friends, I have all the bells and whistles and all the available software, and can print out gi-normous PDF reports with lots of charts and graphs and numbers.

I'm mystified by it all.

I took my latest reports to the sleep doc for a one year follow up. Besides informing me at 60 events per hour is in the "Severe OSA" class, something I'd missed before, he read my reports and thought that I was doing just fine.

I've been told the "Magic Number" to watch, if you can't do anything else, is your AHI. Keep it under 5. Doc agreed, and it appears that I am doing that, so he wasn't worried about any of the rest of it.

I feel good, so I'm not gonna worry either. Nyah!!!

LOL,
