flatulence

Post by snoresnout » Sat May 17, 2008 6:25 am

Now that I have a full face mask and have titrated up to 11 (which seems to be the right pressure) I have a real problem with air in the gut . Unless I take a sleep aide of some type I'm back to waking up exhausted. Any suggestions are appreciated.

When I first got my auto with c-flex I had the c-flex at 3... the most relief. I would wake up some mornings with a painfully inflated belly which of course provided entertainment as it dissipated.

I turned my c-flex setting down to 2 and the problem went away. Are you using c-flex? I found that over time I really had gotten so used to the machine that I didn't need the c-flex and turned it down to 1. I could probably turn it off and not notice at this point.

I've had the same problem..I have epr...c-flex or epr, didn't seem to matter to me. I had found that after about 1.5-2mths after initially starting treatment, the "air in the stomach in the morning" problem disappeared. I think your body adjusts and things just tighten up thusly not allowing any further air to "go down the wrong tube"!

That problem doesn't always go away after a few weeks. I've been 100% compliant for over 8 months and take Melatonin and Ambien every night. I still am wakened numerous times duting the night with flatuence. As soon as I sit up the air in my stomach comes up, but the air in my gut leaks out all day in the most uncomfortable and embarassing way!

You may have a weak esophageal sphincter, which when blown open, pushes air all the way through your system. Between that and the constant mask leaks, I'm lucky if I can sleep a whole hour at a time.

I keep coming back to this forum to see if anyone has ever solved this problem, but other than surgery (which is not guranteed), I haven't seen anything that I haven't already tried. I'm exhausted every day.

OutaSync, I'm so glad you mentioned that it lasts throughout the day. I've been thinking I should be able to "blow it out" of my system in the morning and be done with it and that I must be an oddity that mine seems to escape throughout the day (and from both directions, mind you), including backlash with meals because of air interference. Guess some of us have guts that love that air so much they just don't want to part with it too soon, huh? Lucky us! Glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem, and I'm right there with you watching for someone to come up with an answer one of these days!!

Peggy,
I'm so glad you said that (Sorry). I thought I was the only one who had that problem.
