APAP neccessary?

Post by fogels » Wed May 14, 2008 7:52 pm

Hello,

I am looking into upgrading from my SleepStyle 200 to a machine that records data that can be downloaded. I noticed the majority of people own the M series from respironics. Is this the Cadillac of xPAP's? What would you guys recommend?

Now once I figured the brand I have another big question...
Is APAP a comfort thing or is it more effective form of treatment? Does it lower AHI's or just make it easier to fall asleep.

I have no problem falling asleep with my straight CPAP and wondering if it is a waste to pay for an APAP .

Thank you very much to anyone who takes the time to read this.

Each brand of machine is a little different. Some seem to sleep better with one brand, some sleep better with another. Any data capable machine is a good choice. An APAP may make you more comfortable by letting you sleep at a lower pressure for part of the night. I have a remstar because that is who my DME deals with.
I sleep better with my machine set on cpap. The constant pressure changes of the auto would wake me. So I set my machine to cpap, but switch to auto occasionally to be sure that my numbers are the best they can be.
My MD was going to have me do another titration study until I showed him prinouts of a few weeks on my auto. All the info he needed was there. So it saved me the trouble of a sleep study.
Check prices, if you can get an auto for a reasonable price...DO.

I have used a variety of machines and models and haven't found one yet that doesn't do well in most areas. The features do vary & so do the prices.

The software from PB is v good. Recently Resmed upgraded theirs & it is so much better than it used to be. Respironics latest software is excellent for reading nightly results.

Resmed's newest machines have some outstanding features (such as EasyBreathe). Respironics have a very nice feature called A-Flex. All these aid in getting used to the therapy.

But for myself - I would not go without a BiLevel and am now utterly hooked on the SV class machines & both the Resmed Vpap Adapt and the Respironics Bipap AutoSV are great machines with (AFAIKT) many happy users.

Good luck
