Difficulty with hose/mask connection

Post by Mezzaluna » Sat May 10, 2008 11:44 am

Hmmmm.... I thought I posted this but couldn't find it....

I recently switched masks as I was given a new one in the hospital. My new mask is a ResMed Ultra Mirage and I like it very much. My CPAP is REMStar Plus M Series. However, I struggle quite a bit trying to connect the hose to the mask. This is particularly annoying when I get up to use the bathroom during the night and disconnect the mask from the hose. The hose seems to be a tiny bit too small, so I try various methods: angling them together; twisting; plain ol' shoving. My frustrated muttering wakes my husband sometimes!

Is there some type of lubrication I can use to make this connection easier?

Try cpap.com's quick release connectors. The protect the hose, and they reiease quickly.

Yes, Gumby, it's a new hose. I swapped hoses with my husband (who has an older hose) just to see if it would work better, and it did. Still, I'd like to be able to use my own new hose.

Thank you Ozij, I'll check out the connector.

I don't understand. I used an UMFF for years. You don't disconnect the hose from the mask. You simply remove the mask from your face (a clip on the side).

Try pinching the hose so that it is an oval shape. Slide it on the bottom, then release. It should make life easier.

When I ordered my 3 meter hose, I made the mistake of getting heavy duty hose. I thought "well, heavy duty connections protect life of hose, great".

Well, the hose is heavy, and the connectors are very stiff because they are thick. It is tough for me to get them on, and this is connecting with the mask off my face. This little trick works for me.

I use a little saliva & it slips right in, and I’m talking about the mask’s hose onto the mask.
