Somebody gave me some misinformation at the dme! Good news!!

Post by deepurpleprincess » Thu May 08, 2008 12:07 am

I was told from my DME that Medcaid didn't pay for a new mask, headgear, tubing or filters. Who ever told me that there doesn't know what there talking about. Anyway I get a call from the DME it's automated question thingy that asked if I need any of the above supplies and I said yes and they shipped it to me and I got it!! I am incrediablely happy because I first was told that medicaid did cover and then told it didn't. They didn't cover the white disposable filter just the regular black one, but who cares I have what I need. If I really want the white ones I can order them on cpap.com. Somebody needs to get their info straight. Now only if I could get a data capable machine then I would be all set. I have to save up for that and that's going to take forever for me because I only get ssi. Oh well I am just thankful for what I do have.

I'd recommend replacing those white filters monthly.

Just because your DME sent it too you, does not mean your insurance will pay for it. Some DME's (mine is not one of them), will send you supplies even if your insurance will not pay for them, and than pass the bill on to you when the insurance refuses the charges. I make every effort to insure that my patients are not put into a situation where they are recieving supplies their insurance will not pay for, and cannot afford them on their own. We do not use an automated phone resupply system, way too impersonal and just poor customer service IMO.

It's been a couple of weeks so I am assuming my insurance did cover it. The automated thing said my insurance does cover it. I hope they don't turn around and charge me a few weeks from now because it shouldn't be that long to figure out whether or not my insurance covers it or not. I did get a receipt with my package showing I owed nothing so I don't know. Now I am worried.

Sorry i didn't mean to make you worried, i just want you to be aware of some of the pitfalls in this industry. There are many, and this is one of them, automated supply calls for patients.
