Not ready to give up, these are the masks I've tried

Post by MrRandom » Fri May 02, 2008 6:50 am

ComfortFull 2 size medium - cannot achieve seal

ComfortGel nasal mask size small - leaks in eyes, uncomfortable on teeth, smells horrible, need mouth breathing at times

Ultra Mirage FF size small - too small, hurt face, leak into eyes

Mirage Quattro FF size small - too large, leaks into eyes and under mouth

Mirage Liberty size small w/medium pillows - very uncomfortable on nose and teeth, leaks around mouth, leaks around nose, annoying flapping of the pillows

Mirage Liberty as oral only - air leaks UP the back of my throat and into my nose. Nose plug makes no difference. Excessive mouth drying

Mojo Gel FF size small - excellent sizing, perfect fit, very comfortable, will not seal, leaks in eyes

Any suggestions???

Didn't you try something other than a size small for some of these? Looks like that might have been the problem.

Only suggestion is to find the mask that works best for YOUR face.

Everyone's face is different ... what does not work for you may be perfect for someone else and what is perfect for you may be a torture device for someone else.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I like my Ultra Mirage a lot. Why don't you try a larger size?

As a general rule, men need large sized mask. I think sizing is probably your problem. Try it even if you don't "think" it will work.

I would respectfully disagree. I went through a F&P 431 Medium, Comfortful Medium, and a Quattro Medium (All suggested by the sleep lab / DME) They all leaked.

I finally bought a SMALL Quattro and bingo, much better.

By pure chance I happened to later try the ComfortGet nasal Small and it is the best ever. The sleep lab didn't even offer me a nasal mask because I breathed through my mouth during the sleep study.

I guess I've learned not to do that anymore, because I haven't had a problem with it. I tape my mouth shut if I ever notice I'm doing it.

The point is... I was the one that found the best mask for me, not the sleep lab OR the DME. And, it happened to be a SMALL. I'm a 5'10" 215 pound guy, not exactly petite.

I'm a pretty small guy myself. I'm only 5'6", 160lbs, and have a small recessed jaw (probably the reason I have sleep apnea in the first place). I'm quite certain at this point the quattro small (for example) is too large for me. However the ultra mirage small was much too small. The sizing seems to be all over the place with these masks, it's very frustrating!

Oh yeah, meant to add to that Mojo small fits me absolutely perfectly. I really wish I could get it to not leak. It would be the perfect mask. Of all that I've tried it's by far the most comfortable. I wonder if I could glue it or tape it to my face.

Have you tried Macks on it to get it to seal?

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. I use Mack's on my nasal mask every night. I just make a roll and stick it around the cushion and it seals perfectly.

This is custom made and available in oz however with the way the U,S dollar is at the moment it would be an expensive trip.

The silicone putty doesn't work for me for some reason. It doesn't stay in place. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? I also can't use it around the nose bridge because then it would be on my eyes. All of these masks that sit on the nose are pretty much sitting on the corner of my eyes.

For all the money I've spent on masks that don't fit, that probably would have been cheaper! Looks like a nice mask too. Too bad someone doesn't do these custom masks here (USA).

I've only been a hosehead for 5 months now...

When I started.. I was buying a new mask every week. Some of the masks I hated, some I only disliked intensely.

CPAP makes enough of a change in my life that I am willing to battle the mask leaks, pressure sores, rainout, being strangled by my own hose, and the usual assortment of various types of nose abuse. (I am quite pleased that the bridge of my nose is now covered with what actually looks like skin again.)

The really odd thing is now that I am more comfortable with CPAP, the masks that I really hated a few months ago, aren't that bad now. Stick with it. Keep trying to fix what you can, and get over what you can't. You will be amazed with what you can get used to.

The moral of the story:

And if you can't be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you're with

Don't be angry, don't be sad
Don't sit cryin' over good times you've had
There's a mask right next to you
And she's just waiting for something to do

I really don't mind sleeping with this thing at all. Some masks are too uncomfortable, but like the quattro for instance, although it seems too large, is comfortable enough for me. It's just my eyes. I keep having to get up during the night and put drops in my eyes because they dry out and become scratchy and inflamed. I suppose there is no mask that can help if it is going up my tear ducts. Seems I'm on the path to giving up this thing altogether. I'm just not seeing the benefit of it. Seems more problem and expense than it's worth. I'm going to take it for my surgery, then I don't know what I'm going to do with it.
