Welcome to the forum.

Why don't you fill out your profile with your equipment and pressure.

If you're using a nasal mask, I would venture to guess that you're leaking your therapy air out your mouth during the night. Along with that, if your pressure is too low, you might be mouth-breathing to supplement your therapy air.

Do NOT add anything to your humidifier......and only use distilled water.

Hello & Welcome, utz1955! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and SO many helpful people here!

As Den said, never add anything to your HH water. I had a dry, sore throat after my first couple of nights with my CPAP, but that was without a humidifier--got the HH within days of beginning, and the humidfied air relly helped. But, I use a full face mask. Later, even with a FF mask, I began having a VERY dry mouth and throat again. Thanks to this forum, I finally learned that we just have to do whatever necessary to keep our mouths closed during CPAP. For some CPAP'ers (me!), an open mouth leads to a dry mouth/throat, regardless of mask type. Good luck!

Dry throat

Post by utz1955 » Thu Apr 17, 2008 7:22 pm

Hey thanks to those that have answered me . That is what I was afraid of , I am still sleeping with my mouth open . I did that during my sleep study , too . I am using a full face mask , would a different type , like a nasal pillow , help with my open mouth , or should I just tape my mouth shut .

I , too am glad I found this website , just migt be what I need . I have had my cpap for 10 days now and so far , only one night , did I wake up with it not on . Still don't remember taking it off , though . I do know that I am sleeping better now , cause I am having some vivid dreams , something I haven't had for years . Hanging n there .

You can try turning up the humidifier. What pressure is your machine set to? What was your titrated pressure?
Keep in mind that a higher humidifier setting may cause rainout.
