The Hybrid Pinch

I have been using a Hybrid mask for about 4 months now. I really like not having to wear a chinstrap anymore, and it seals really well most nights.

Unfortunately, I have on irritating problem with the Hybrid. I had to remove the chin cup on mine to get it to seal correctly. The problem is that the top part of the oral part pinches the skin just below my nose and unfortunately hasn't really gotten much better even after all this time. I have tried to move it down a bit so it doesn't pinch as much, but that causes the nasal pillows to not seal well.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and were you able to solve it.

Dang, I was hoping there would be an answer to this!!! I just tried mine for the first time last night, had a helluva time getting a seal in the first place, and then woke up at 1 a.m. having bumped something out of place which I couldn't figure out how to fix and just gave up on it. Have you, since posting this thread topic, gotten any advice on how to get rid of that pinch or figured out any tricks?

Peggy, no, no one has any advice on this subject. I do find it's less of a problem if I shave each night, but that's a pain so it doesn't always happen. Other than that the Hybrid is great, much better than any of the other alternatives like chin straps and taping.

pinching is a bit new to me but that pad a cheek or somekind of pad on the headgear may help you.

The great thing about the Hybrid is you can cut the cushion anywhere, not just the chin flap. you get 3 cushions. take advantage of that and taylor them to your face.
I can use all three cushions with a little adjustment. best darn thing I've found. Play with it. They sure give you enough to play with!

You may have the straps too tight. Please read this: viewtopic.php?t=14422

Don't miss the part about "I took a leg out of a lady's pair of tights and tied it in a circle." This trick of Rested Gal's has allowed me to adjust the mask straps quite loosely and still get a very low leak rate.

Most people know you can take regular scissors and cut the chin flap off. You can also cut the cushion on the sides or on the upper lip, where ever you need a little extra room.You can tailor the Hybrid to fit your face.
The best thing to do is practice on one of the cushions that is not your favorite size. That way, should you give yourself too much room and not like it, you have an idea what not to do on the next cushion. You get three.

The oral cushion slips into a slot on the mask shell. Neverbetter is suggesting you trim that part of the cushion that slips into the slot in the shell to custom fit the cusion to the shape of your upper lip area.

Correct.
You can trim the mask anywhere. the sides, bottom, top, everyewhere. I wasn't the first figure this out. I found out about cutting it online over a year ago. with three cushions to play with, there is no way this mask won't fit.
Pull the darn thing out of the mask drawer and try it for yourself. I think the manufacturers knew we would do this because even after you cut it, you can slide it into the frame, no problem.

I trim the end that inserts into the mask to shorten an area to contour to my face. It will slide in and be shorter in some places, longer in others. I like to give myself more roon on the upper lip area because of my facial hair.

Has anyone else tried the Resmed Liberty as an alternative to tyhe Hybrid? I have not experienced any of the problems described here w/ the Liberty - it seems to be a better product than the Hybrid.

Neverbetter,
It does work, but it is not quite as easy as you make it sound.
I highly suggest that a marker is used to outline where the cuts need to be made before you cut.
The hybrid just gives you more options because you have three cushions to play with and that makes the product substantially more forgiving than a liberty,per se.
Unless someone has a great deal of facial hair or a very big upper lip area, there is no reason to start cutting or tailoring the hybrid cushions.
