Respironics mileage

Post by Sergey45 » Tue Mar 18, 2008 12:27 pm

Hello everyone!
It’s been a long time since my last posting.

Have a question to Respironics machines users. I have already 5556 hours on my Respironics CPAP Plus. Ia m using it for more than 2 years now. For how much longer this machine could work? One year more? Two? What my expectations should be like? When I should start thinking about replacement?
Thanks.

Could be tonight.......could be another 5 - 10 years.

I'm not that "gutsy"......I was nervous the whole first year of my therapy, so when I decided my therapy WAS working, I started buying backup machines......especially when I heard Respironics was going to quit making the Legacy series.

You should see the insulting e-mail from Respronics when I wrote them and asked that exact same question! I was gulible back then!

Medicare will pay on a new machine every five years, while some will last longer (at least the older models) I suspect that five years is about the average and at that time technology will have changed so much you would want to replace it.

I don't know about Respironics, but my manufacturer (Resmed) suggests a factory "overhaul" at 5 years.

Personally I wouldn't spend the money to have a machine collecting dust on the shelf, potentially for years, "just in case". After all if it is an emergency you can get one very quickly from many places if yours was to "let the smoke out".[/url]

I went one night without (third night) since I started ... It iwll never happen again if I can help it. Mine is not on a shelf collecting dust either ... it's in a box in MY closet (instead of some other place) ready for any sign of smoke.

Most of them have a 2-year warranty (some have 3-year and I believe Canada requires 3-years).
OK......your machine gets repaired "free" for 2 (or 3) years......whatcha gonna use during the 2 - 6 weeks while it's being repaired at the factory?

I decided that I wasn't going to wait to find out.

Mine aren't collecting all that much dust......I rotate mine.
(and the others are covered so they DON'T get dusty)

Mine is not sitting in the closet collecting dust either. It sits next to my recliner for when I watch TV because I often fall asleep wathing TV because it is often SO interesting! Will also use it for naps on the weekends. Keep the dust blown out of it!

I would call my DME and get a rental that day...or if I had the cash just go to CPAP.com and buy one with overnight shipping.

To each his own...just seems like overkill to me. What if BOTH your machines die. Do you have a third? It could happen!!!

I don't know what Respironics considers the average life span of a CPAP to be, but I just replaced my Remstar Choice after 11 years...and it's still working.

However, after reading all the great things about the newer machines on this forum, I decided it was time for another sleep study and a data capable machine. I purchased a Respironics M series Auto with A-flex. The difference between the machines is like night and day.

Of course your mileage may vary with your machine.

So your DME will come out on New Year's day or Chrismas Day and never gets sick and you can depend on instant DME gratification 24/7/364.24?

You are one lucky hoser

To me it feels like breathing without a hose at all.

With CFLEX or no exhalation at all, I have noticed that when I trun off the machine -- the depressurization sucks the air out of you until you remove the mask ... but with AFLEX it does not suck the air out of you ... weird huh?
