Chinstrap-which one

Post by sleepyguy1 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:00 am

I have a high leak rate, and my doctor recommended I might try a chin strap. I use a mirage swift II nasal pillows. Is there one anyone could recommend?

Tried lots of the chinstraps, couldn't tolerate the "wrap around the head" types, so I came up with my own design. Finally found something that works for me. So far, feedback from others has been great. Check it out.

I have been using a chinstrap nightly since Oct. 07. I tried two different ones unsuccessfully until lots of research led me to the Tiara Ruby. It totally works for me, no slipping or sliding on my head, it's taut enough to keep my lips together yet it's comfortable. The Ruby comes in 3 sizes (S, M, L) and is true to size. Many online vendors have the measuring chart available on their website.
OSA Sleep Test 8/29/07, AHI 64, Sat. 74%
Titrated 10/1/07, Pressure 13
Re-titrated 9/29/08, Pressure 15/10
BiPAP set at 15/10

Thanks, Joyce! I'm so glad it works for you. I was really nervous about offering this to others, just hoping that it would help all as it has me. So far, getting all positive feedback.

i have used 2 differant brands of chinstraps w/ the swift 11. as far as comfort, this interface is by far my favorite. the problem w/ chinstraps is that they are not fail safe to mouth leaks. have also used the polident strips on occasion and they seem to work for me better than chinstraps. last night i used neither of the two and got good numbers w/ no leaks-go figure. others have suggested learning to keep your tongue against the roof of your mouth....i have enough problems training myself to do something while i'm awake ...these are only my personal observations,i do not wear a lab coat, nor do i have a certificate on th wall. all the best & goodluck in your quest for restful Zzzzzzz
