ResMed s8 question

Post by reducha » Thu Mar 13, 2008 11:58 am

hey everyone! Just a curious question. If,,in cpap mode,,,i set my maximum pressure at 14,,,how come, in the morning, when i check my results from the night,,it records my maximum pressure from the night before as 13.4????? sounds a bit confusing. Tim

Do you have EPR active. If so, the pressure will be reduced by about 1/2 of the EPR setting.

Good luck

I have the exact opposite problem. I have my EPR off and my pressure reads .2 cm/h2o HIGHER than my pressure. Right now I'm set at 8.4 and it reads 8.6 overall.

EPR will skew the average down.

If you have the Elite, the automatic altitude compensator could be raising the pressure to compensate or if you have the Compact, check the altitude setting in the menu's. Except I see you are in NYC. Hmmm....

Is it adjusting for leaks, giving you the actual level of therapy you received??

reducha,

Your 13.4 is 95% of the 14 pressure that you set. That means that your cpap machine is operating at 13.4% at least 95% of the time. This includes putting the mask on, taking it off, ramp, leaks, etc.

This is a normal function of the cpap.

I agree with RiverDave. I have an S8 and when I first started I noticed my nightly pressure was always less than it was set for. I turned off the EPR and the pressure hasn't gone below what it's set for since then.
The older I get, the better I was

The OP is running his S8 in CPAP mode, so 95% has nothing to do with it.

As others have already stated, its due to using EPR.

Cheers,

Bill
