Should I change to a under-the-nose interface?

Post by jddqr » Tue Mar 11, 2008 11:42 am

Hi all,

I've been using a ComfortGel mask for about 5 days now, and while it is very comfortable, it leaves this pretty vicious mark on the bridge of my nose (between my eyes) that takes quite a while in the morning to go away.

I'm tempted to try one of the interfaces that goes underneath your nose (I don't know if it's considered a 'pillow' or not).... are there any pros and/or cons with this style of interface?

Thanks!
-John

I hate pillows masks. They rub my upper lip and the outside of my nose raw.

I prefer prongs style masks. Look into the Nasal Aire II - most comfortable mask I've tried.

Oooh, good to know. I'll probably stick with the gel mask then, since the supply at my local DME is quite limited.

Thanks Babs!

John you are likely the ONLY one who even knows the mark is there.

I prefer the Optilife nasal pillow mask because it does not touch my upper lip at all. It does leave marks on my cheeks, but they go away before I get to work. I tried Pad-a-Cheeks with this mask, but they seem to pull the mask too far out from my face even when I tighten th straps. I had major leak issues. So I have marks in the morning. It doesn't hurt.

I also have the Swift. It does touch my upper lip, but it doesn't bother me. I like it less than the Optilife because the hose connecting to the machine also connects to one side of the mask, which doesn't allow for turning over to another side very easily. I have to switch sides the hose goes in to the mask to turn to another side,
