I'm fairly new to CPAP, just three months, so this may be old hat to the veterans, but I'd like to mention that one of the most effective strategies for me has been the specially designed pillows...PAPillows. No mask worked with my regular pillow as I would angle my nose in (I wear a nose mask) and would end up with lots of leaking.
First I tried one of those special foam pillows for people with neck problems. Didn't work and hurt my neck to boot. I was getting desperate as my husband and I had, many months earlier (before even knowing I had sleep apnea), scheduled a trip to Egypt. I imagined myself with no sleep trying to do the tourist thing.
Then, a week before we left Idiscovered these pillows and that they kept my nose from going sideways as I slept. I carried the small one with me all over Egypt...it fit nicely into my suitcase. But, best of all, I got lots of decent sleep...probably helped by the fact that I was exhausted byall that walking.
BTW, I also need a chin strap to keep my mouth closed and take clonazapam to stop restless legs.
Thanks for listening. Claire

The double edge PAPillow is what I've been using almost every night for past two years. Love it! Occasionally I'll switch to my "Shapeable Pillow" from Target, which works very well too. But the PAPillow is my favorite.
