Soooooooooo good to hear it will get better, as I'm not feeling
successful whatsoever. I did set up my acct, since I suspect I'm
be needing some moral support right now. Thanks for the reply

Hey, Yorkiemum01, I'm from NC, too! What kind of machine and mask are you using? In your profile area, you can add this information--folks here are able to offer a lot more helpful suggestions when they know what equipment we use. Also, some new users need to use the ramp feature at first (starts at a lower pressure, then increases gradually).

think i have my equiptment listed now...does it show up on your end?
The only function of CPAP i've found comfortable is the 'ramp' feature, but
once it goes to full pressure, I'm wide awake struggling for air, panting like a dog. I know from reading some on this site, this should improve, but cant say I'm feeling very optimistic at this moment. Thanks for your
support though.....Will continue trying. Oh..and I'm near Charlotte NC area.

Yep, seeing your equipment. I think the ResMed Escape provides only compliance data, not all of the data you can get from the higher end machines (like apneas, hypopneas, AHI . . .). How long have you had your machine? I started out with a non-data-capable machine, but upgraded after learning how valuable the data is as we track our therapy.

Only had machine 5 days.......and its been a hate, hate relationship!
Usually between 1 and 3 am, i rip the mask off..and give up, as I'm
not sleeping whatsoever. I'm not even scheduled to see Dr until 3/17, and
cant imagine funtioning in this sleep deprieved manner much longer.

Hello--I am new too but not as new as you!! LOL! The Escape is the machine that I have with the same humidifier. You will want to upgrade to an ELITE or the Vantage -----and keep the same humifier. so you will have the date on how you are doing. I am in the process of trying to upgrade to an ELITE machine right now so I can track my progress.
I don't see what your pressure is set at? You may want to include that in your profile so we can help you out with suggestions. I don't have a full face mask --only the nasal mask and I was hard to get used to that every night on my face. I do sleep better now --but it is an uphill battle---we all are searching for the perfect mask--it is like the holy grail.
Welcome to the forum!!

Your mask is the biggest thing to get "right". You may try to sit and watch tv, read a magazine, etc. to get used to the feel of the mask on your face. It is like being in alien territory and for many it takes time to get to the point that you view the mask as your friend.
Try to extend the time that you wear the mask each night by a little.
Good luck and keep reading the forum. The forum is what got me through the first few weeks of my treatment. It was good to know that others had walked the walk and were using their machines and that it does get easier with time.

Hi--It is nice to know that we are all in this together!! It is hard to get used to having this thing on your face every night and I had a hard time getting used to the straps on my head and air whistling around the mask, waking up to fix leaks, etc---I am on my 4th mask ----so keep trying masks until you find one that is comfy and will work for you. Everyone likes different things ---straps, etc. The Gel Mask that I use is pretty comfortable but there are still nights when I get into bed and wish I could sleep on my own again.
Good luck --keep with it --you will feel better as soon as you can sleep longer with the mask on.
Carrie

Hi Yorkiemum...I am pretty new, also...just a few weeks under my belt. I was having an awful time getting to sleep, also...still am on some nites, but it IS getting better. I have been making it thru until maybe 6 AM with one break to get up to go to the bathroom the last few nites, so that is definite progress. So keep with it..and keep coming here...these folks are great and really offer a ton of info and support. You can do it!

Hi Yorkiemum01!
It does get better. The beginning was very difficult for me - masks I couldn't stand, wrong pressure, machines misunderstanding my breathing patterns - an RT so full of himself that he wouldn't listen.... that was 3 years ago.
I was fortunate enough to find the sleep apnea forums - this is the one I've remained on - and get all the tips and knowledge I need to make this treatment work.
Read Our Collective Wisdom and the CPAP FAQs, and remember that we've got thousands and thousands of successful cpap sleep hours under our belts. Use our experience.
Welcome.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

It appears exhaustion won.....as I woke this morning w/mask tossed on the floor! (I finally got some sleep LOL). No recall of doing it of course. Sleep
deprivation is a cruel thing, no doubt. Thank you all for replying, and I will keep checking the forum and 'Collective Wisdom' page as I begin this journey.
