I DID it !!!!!

Post by bap40 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 2:13 pm

As a new CPAP user of just one week. I finally gathered the guts to request from my DME the machine I wanted from the start. I wanted the Respironics M series with A/Flex. She shot me down the day I went in to "choose the machine I wanted. She insisted that I did not need all those features and why would I want a machine that I didn't really need etc. I caved in and accecpted the F/P 604. I don't dislike this machine but it was not the machine of my choice after investigating them all. After reading lots of your posts and helpful answers to my newbie questions, I got madder and madder about how she pushed me into what she wanted. So this morning I called her and made the request for what I wanted in the first place. Needless to say, she was not exactly warm and friendly about it at all. What was SHE supposed to do with a new machine with only a few hours on it? Did I realize that the one I wanted costs a lot more? Then she said that she hoped that I didn't plan on returning any other machines. She asked if I knew that she would have to get another script from their doctor.... this doctor is not even on site. He is out of my state and across the country to be exact. I told her that if that was a problem, my family doctor has allready said he would write one for me. That pretty much shut her up. It finally ended with her saying she would call when the machine came in because, of course it would have to be ordered! I unfortunetly signed a paper before saying I would use them for my supplies. I wonder how binging this is because I do not like her or her attitude and she did not do any explanations of much of anything from the start. I am positive this place is one of the bad ones you all have mentioned in the boards. I do owe you all a huge THANK YOU for telling me to get what I want and not take what they give out. Are there any reporting boards or something to that affect to report bad business practices or even to report to the BBB? So again thanks for all the input to get me to finally step up and get what I want.. Now we will just have to see how long this takes or if I have to go to another place.

Way to go! Some of the companies have poor attitudes and sometimes it is only the RT who is a problem. One therapist at my DME is so rude I refuse to deal with her. Yet I don't want to change suppliers as the others are great. I just call back if she happens to have phone duty when I make the first contact. Are there others there you could deal with?

i sooooooo know how you feel...my RT just plunked a machine down in front of me at my first appointment and that was that...i found this forum 2 weeks later and was FURIOUS to find that i had been bamboozled...it took me nine months to get my way, but i finally did, and i have no idea, nor do i care, what they were going to do with a nine month old machine....they should've been straight with me from the start...

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! way to go

take good care

GREAT!!!!! Congratulations...

It really pisses me off when they ask "Why do you want....???"

I feel like saying .... If it will do what the doctor prescribes... WHY DO YOU CARE which one I want??? It's really none of your fricken business why I want it... I just do .... OK????

Congrats - this is a real good first step. I do remember an old west saying about counting chickens - so do your home work now.

Find out who the licensing agency is in your state or ask your atty. general for advice. Read & make contact.

This, my friend, is ONLY just the beginning. You can believe she has NOT given up.

Good Luck,

I did it

I have no option as to who I deal with at this place. It is very small and very new and there is only 1 tech who works there. I only hope that when she orders my new machine she orders for heat humidity. I can see her just going for the passover type to piss me off. I have made an enemy of this know it all gal! Not so sure what kind of service I will recieve in the future.

I believe the doc has to script the "heated humidifier". So if it's on the script, you are good.

You do have a copy?
