hi , im new at this. Started on my cpap the first of January. Went to doctor again this past Friday, and he changed my pressure from 9 to 11 which seems to work pretty good over the last couple nights. Just wanting to know whether to go for a full face mask next time i get one in order to prevent leaks
This is a great place with great information. Thanks to everyone here

Welcome to the forum.

Full face masks are my preference. They're good insurance against leaking air out your mouth while you sleep.

Hello & Welcome to the forum iamcarol! Glad you found this place so soon--took me over a year after beginning my CPAP. There is so much useful information here.

I use a FF mask as well, and it is the best to use to prevent leaks through the mouth. But, many users prefer nasal masks or nasal cushions. The search for the perfect mask seems to be a never ending quest. There's no one best mask, everyone has their personal preferences.

The full face masks are generally harder to fit, the more facial surface any mask has to cover the greater the opportunity for mask leaks (as opposed to mouth leaks). This is NOT to discourage you. The general consensus appears to be that it is good to have a full face mask on hand even if you usually prefer a nasal mask or nasal pillows just for those times when you are too congested to nose breathe only or at all.

Welcome aboard iamcarol!!!! If you haven't found it already take a look at the yellow lightbulb (Our Collective Wisdom) and the red question mark (CPAP FAQ). You'll find a wealth of info there.
Masks are the "Holy Grail" of CPAP as I see it. What works for me won't necessarily work for you.
Try as many masks as your DME will allow you to try. Full face doesn't work for me, but I'm not a mouth breather. Presently I use a Headrest mask with nasal pillows, but I also like the ComfortGel mask.

Good luck in your quest -- keep us up on how you're doing!!!

cheers
goose

I'm a bit of an exception ... in that I keep three masks, and tend to rotate them. I have a full-face, and two variants of Nasal "cover" masks. I can't handle the masks where you stick the "pointy ends" into your nose. That's just too wierd for me.

Most people settle on a single mask, but I actually like to change every day or two. One other thing I do is that I find that I'll wake up once in a while during the night with my current mask bothering me in some way ... and I'll switch to the other type (nasal to ff or vice-versa) and sleep beautifully the rest of the night.

Not recommending this, as I don't know anyone else that does this ... just saying it works for me.

I switch around too--my UMFF is my regular mask, but I use an Activa or Ultra Mirage II as well. Last night, I wore the nasal for half the night, woke up congested, switch to the FF.
