Mask for Colds, Sinus Infection-Which Recommended?

Post by sleepyguy1 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:48 am

I noted in the posts that many of you keep a mask to use when you have a cold or sinus infection, which makes sense.

What mask do you recommend?

Thanks.

You are going to lots of different opinions on this one.

Again what works for me may not be the most suitable for you.

I use a F&P 431 full face if congested.

I couldn't use anything, since I couldn't clear my nose at all, and I was constantly coughing. I just gave up CPAP for 5 days. I saved a FF to use when sick, but I couldn't bear it, so I just didn't use it.

If I'm just a little congested, I can usually clear at least one nostril and use my regular mask - Nasal Aire II.

I try to remember to use the NeilMed Sinus Rinse twice a day when I'm sick, and also psuedoephedrine to decongest. Mucinex has helped me, too.

Good luck!

I have 76 apneas an hour without the CPAP, so I am afraid to quite using it, which is why I am looking into buying a mask.

A couple of times a year I seem to get an awful cold, with coughing and congestion. Before I started using a CPAP machine I had tremendous difficulty sleeping, or even lying down, during these periods.

I just had the first cold since getting my CPAP machine. I worried that I might have to get a full-face mask. Instead, I turned the humidifier to the highest setting and it seems to actually help me breathe more easily and sleep. I use a nasal pillow mask and this might be part of the reason for this effect, since it directs the moist air right into my nostrils.

I recommend a full face mask. I have a couple such masks and like the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.
