I am in Ontario and I am told that OHIP covers up to 75% of the cost for a cpap machine but 2 sleep tests are required and my 2nd is in May. I am on a trial machine right now and the company I am dealing with has been great but the prices are seem to be a little on the high side. Being self-employed I am paying out of my pocket for the machine and I am wondering if anyone dealing with OHIP has been able to by from cpap.com and has been reimbersed from OHIP.
Thanx EH!

every time someone asks a question about where to buy, a "guest" responds that we should buy in canada, but he or she never says why they think this is so...i'd be curious to hearAnonymous wrote:buy your equipment in Canada from an authorized Canadian reseller.

Ya, I forgot to sign in when I posted this message, my bad. Thanx for your input there Shanon. I noticed the one that said to buy from a Canadian dealer and I am all for supporting Canadian businesses but from what I can see is that the cpap reps are indeed gouging us (canadians) and with the cdn dollar as high as it is, well that is why I am looking on-line and from what I have found cpap.com has the best prices. I have already ordered my mask from cpap.com as I am on a trial machine right now. I was told that you don't get reimbersed until after you have your 2nd sleep test. I do have my script in hand and I am wondering why they make it so difficult to get a apap machine. It seems to me that this is the way to go and could make the cpap obsolete in the future. I was just wondering if anyone went through the process of buying from cpap.com and got the 75% (maxes at $780) from ohip.
Let's put it this way, OP- if you buy from a company here, you'll probably end up paying just as much out of pocket *with* the guaranteed OHIP coverage, as you would just shelling out for it from cpap.com with no OHIP. I was uninsured at the time and paid $300 for my machine and $200+ for my mask (which OHIP didn't cover because the basic mask is shite- for me at least). OHIP covered about $800 of my machine. That same machine is about $400 US on the website, and with the dollar the way it is I'd avoid third party entaglements if I could.
That said, call OHIP and ask. One would imagine that they'd be more than willing to cover something cheaper. If you find out, let me know.

Just adding my 2cents about we Canadians being gouged. I'll be looking for a new mask shortly so I asked my DME about the Breeze (among other ones). On cpap.com it costs US$73.95. My DME charges CAD$215. Try telling me that's reasonable?
Also many things are not available here in Canada. One mask I've heard so much positive about here on cpaptalk.com is the headrest/aura so I asked my DME. At first he said he'd look into it then he called me back to say it's not available in Canada.
I have no idea if my work health insurance will cover my buying a mask via cpap.com so I'll think about it when I'm ready to change mask. I'm also eligible to change my ancient cpap in August so I'll be thinking about that too.

Well this is what I have found out. cpap.com is not on the gov't list so you will not be refunded for anything purchased from them. You need 2 sleep tests that are registered with the gov't program and on your 2nd sleep test you will get a form that is required to get reimburst. They will cover $780 MAX!
Now here is my issue. I will have to pay $1,000 out of pocket for a machine that I don't really want. OR I can buy the set up that I want from cpap.com for the same amount.

Exactly. The three or so Ontario firms who supply my area are fat cats indeed. They were very slow to get back to me and they justified their high prices by saying they provide "service" and because they let you have a low-end unit for a week trial (they charged for this, but they were too cheap to include a decent mask and so I rejected their machine - I could not abide that mask). When it became obvious I needed CPAP, I bought it in the States and, I think, broke even despite losing the rebate I would have received if I had gone with a local supplier. AND I can adjust my machine as I please.Well this is what I have found out. cpap.com is not on the gov't list so you will not be refunded for anything purchased from them. I do have to say that the local rep I am dealing with have been fantastic. They provided me with a apap & ResMed FF as well as a heated humidifier. The apap is to find out what pressure I need for a cpap. I am not sure I want to give up the auto feature though. I am getting great sleeps so as the old saying goes... If it ain't broken don't fix it! So more then likly I will be placing my order with cpap.com very shortly for an auto pap. Although I think I will spend the extra to get it shipped a little faster. I am still waiting for my mask that I ordered 11 days ago. Good things are worth the wait I guess.
With Ontario ADP, I paid the supplier $260 for a machine and a mask. They filled out the paperwork and collected the balance themselves. Viewed positively, I got a machine that puts air into my lungs for a pretty cheap price. Living in a sleepy fatigue sucked, and I am beyond that now. For everything after this first purchase, I will buy from the states.
As the original poster found out, ADP only applies to approved suppliers.
