any long term effect from dry mouth??
was wondering if any of you have ever had a dr. discuss if there are any bad effects of the "dry mouth" conditon.
before starting treatment, i was doing a lot of mouth breathing due to the apnea. I use a full face mask b/c my air pressure is set high that i am waking up in the morning with dry mouth that was just as bad...just for a differnet reason.

Ditto, Sharon, my dentist said the same.

Innomed Hybrid Mask
I was on a medication that caused dry mouth and it also increased my tooth decay. The dentist said to use artificial saliva which is kind of like artificial tears for dry eye. Luckily, I didn't use the medication for very long, and I never used the artifical saliva.

Anticavity Fluoride Treatments
When I told my dentist that I was on CPAP therapy, he gave me a prescription for anticavity fluoride toothpaste and samples of anticavity rinse. I use the toothpaste at bedtime and have had no dental problems at all.

I had dry mouth for about 5 years because of a beta blocker I was taking. I didn't make the connection until I came off the medicine, and had all my spit back.
During that dry mouth time, I had problem after problem with what the ENT doc thought was yeast infections and even "hairy tongue". I think when your mouth is dry, it tends to be a target for yeast and bacteria overgrowth.
Have you ever tried Biotene? Its a toothpaste and mouthwash for dry mouth. There's also a med for dry mouth, but I don't think I'd use that.
