My husband is about to change jobs. This means a change in insurance. I have just started with my CPAP therapy and am wondering how this insurance change will effect me.
Does anyone here have experience with this?
Insurance change question
Thats a good question, but only one that can be answered by your new incoming insurance company unfortunately. If it were me, I would be contacting the HR dept of your husband's new employer to get a real answer regarding the new insurance policies regarding CPAP.
There are a number of issues that need clarification:
Is your machine a rental or is it purchased? is one question that pops off the top of my head (ouch, that hurt)

There are actually quite a few people on the forum that have reported going through that in some form or another.......and with varying stories.
I believe some had to give their machines back as the new insurance providers worked with different DME providers.
How soon is this going to take place?
Do they use the same DME suppliers?
Does the existing insurance provider rent or purchase? (some have a minimal number of rental months)
If you're on a rental and want to keep the one you have, you might ask the existing insurance provider to buy it outright and end the rental agreement.
Like boynedoc said, get in touch with the insurance folks in HR and find out all you can.

I started on my apap at the end of August. We (hubby and me) was informed in December that his coverage was going to lapse at the end of December. I paniced about what to do since I knew we couldn't afford to get me an apap outright or pay the continuing rental on it. The insurance normally rents them for x amount of time.
I called the insurance explained my dilemma and they told me to call the DME and have the DME bill it as a purchase. I did and since my deductible was met my apap only cost me around $50.00 out of pocket!!
Call and see if a similar arrangement can be made for you -- but you must do it prior to coverage ending.
