Quiet BiPAP recommendations ??

Post by Birdseed » Wed Jan 23, 2008 9:48 pm

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a nice QUIET, compact, and lightweight BiPAP with humidifier. I have the M-Series Auto BiPAP -- which makes a rather noisy whining sound that is disturbing to me, albeit it is compact and lightweight. I bought a used BiPAP Pro 2 by Respironics and find it much more quiet and can easily get to sleep with it, but the bugger is bulky for travel.

I highly recommend the tank BiPAP Auto. It makes a much quieter constant pitch that's much easier to sleep with than my M Series Auto CPAP that makes a loud varying whine.

Interesting, must be luck of the draw, I have two m series Bi Pap Autos and they are very quite. Now it may be that they will not stay that way, one is as new in a back up role, and the other has only been in use for seven months. To bad we can't listen to them before we buy. Regards

Thanks Blarg and KAZ. I tend to agree it's the luck of the draw with the M-series since mine is less than 6 months old and makes an annoying whining sound. I was wondering if the ResMed brand might be more quiet in general, but no comments from ResMed BiPAP users yet.

Birdseed,

As others have suggested, the older classic "Tank" Remstar auto Bipap is much quieter than the M-series. I requested the M because I wanted the smaller size, but I tried and tried - thought that I'd become accustomed to the noise - But after 9 months, I was no more used to it than at the beginning so (because I was still in the 10 month rental time frame) I was lucky enough to be able to exchange it for a Classic Remstar Auto Bipap. I love it! Noise is no problem for me now. But as some say it is just luck of the draw. But everyone I know with the older version Auto Bipap has absolutely no problem with the noise. Not so with the M series. Good luck to ya with your problem.

I think it has more to do with the pressure they are used at.

But that is JMMO - (Just My Meaningless Opinion).

ps. I think that useless integrated humidifier also increases the noise level.
