Success and failure with my new Swift II

Post by Lynmar » Sat Jan 12, 2008 10:56 am

To bring everyone up to speed: I have moderate/severe sleep apnea and have been using an Activa mask for 11 months now. Because of other problems I have to take xyrem and don't wake up until my alarm goes off four hours after I go to bed in order for me to take my second dose. Then I don't wake up until time to get up. The Activa was bothering the bridge of my nose and since I also wear glasses my sleep doctor decided to switch me to the Swift II.

Yesterday the DME came out with the Swift II. Too bad they can't clone this guy. He was great! Last night both times I woke up my mask was in place and doing what it was supposed to. Yea! I know I tossed and turned as usual but had no problem with it.

Now the bad. When the DME and I were testing the new mask yesterday I turned my humidifier off. Unfortunately, last night I forgot to turn it back on. This morning I woke up with a very runny nose and congestion in my chest. I don't know if I'm getting a cold or just the lack of humidity. I use an S8 AutoSet Vantage. I turn it up to where it's just short of rainout. After researching this site I also used the vaseline around the outside of my nares and my nose was only sore for about an hour. Another plus!!

Now I don't know whether to try the Swift with the humidifier again or what to do. Any suggestions, advice, help would be extremely appreciated.

Turn on the humidifier and use the Swift. Use Ayr Gel for even better seal and comfort.

Vaseline is petroleum based and will break down the silicone pillows. Ayr gel is the way to go.

Thank you, Sam and Sal.

Oops. No more vaseline. As soon as I get out of bed I'll wash my pillows. Is KY ok? I have that. Today I'm not able to do anything.

Yea, KY's ok

I found a sort of water based lube without perfume which I prefer.

I asked the pharmacist to help me find it. Felt I had to explain why I needed it, which is ridiculous, but there you go.

Good luck with the Swift 2. Glad you like it so far. It's my favourite.

Thank you, Di.

Guess I'll use the KY until I feel good enough to go shopping. This afternoon is supposed to be rainy and with my cold I don't think I should get out in it.

Second night with the Swift was as great as the first.
